Peterborough Cathedral, Rupert Cordeux (resized in 1:400)

Similar to Ben (Peterborough by Cordeux) I have now decided to build Rupert's Peterborough version.

He has the model size in 1:240 which is far too oversized for me, so I scanned the model and printed it on DIN A4 sheetsm which roughly makes the size 1:400 I think.

Furthermore I decided to illuminate the model and add some extras on which I am going to focus later.

Preparation

Beforehand I took a screenshot of google maps and redrew the whole area of the cathedral with photoshop.

The stronger roof parts are glued on thicker cardboard.
THe light shall not shine too much through the walls so I glued the printed sheets on aluminium foil.
As the model shall be illuminated I printed the windows on transparencies.

Tower and Aisle

The tower is soon finished, for the two aisles I show you the progress of my work in more detail: Fist the cut out parts, then the cut out windows. Afterwards the mounted transparencie backs up the windows and finally I colour the windows orange for warm light.

NAve and Entrance

The precedure roughly stays the same for the nave. BEfore I add the nave to the aisles I finsh the remainign part of the cloister.

Then I mount the huge entrance hall. Here I will redesign the doors to get more depth.

Connecting the nave

When the south and north walls of the nave are finished I connect them with the entrance hall on which I have first glued the ceiling. Since I have mounted this on thicker cardboard I gain enormous stability to the project. Then I add the whole parts to the aisles and tower.

Choir

The round choir is conencted to the ceiling. Befor i attach it to the rest of the building I first glue the "new building" together with the roofs. Then I connect it with the choir and add the stabilization cardboard. Only then can I mount it to the aisles and tower.

Very interesting Thomas.

I would like to do some of Rupert's models, but for me as well the scale is too large, so I am interested to see how you manage in the 1/400, and also at the end, whether you think it may be feasible to go to 1/600.

That is coming along really well, Thomas. The illuminated windows will look beautiful.

1:600 is certainly possible Kevin, but quite fiddly!

Peterborough Cathedral, Rupert Cordeux (resized in 1:400)-midne.jpg

The main change I had to make was to redraw the buttresses as simple U-shapes (back and two sides) and a separate front piece, and fill them with thick card. I still used Rupert's artwork, but patched it on to the new shapes.

Alan

P.S. Sorry to hijack your thread, Thomas.
