Smile 1/72 scratchbuilt vietnamese houses and shops

Salut à tous!

As I promised, some more vietnamese buildings.
I found inspiration in photographs of north vietnamese cities.

First , a two-storey house : one side is an inn and the other side a potter-shop.
Names are written both in chu-nôm, which is the original vietnamese script, and latin prints.

All is in cardboard (from biscuits'packages), and the crest of the roof is made of cut drinking-straw.

Here is a rich house with a restaurant, and a terrasse.
Made of biscuits'package too, and some barbecue wooden tips.
The penthouse comes from an HO french railway station.
Chinese prints on it mean "blue lotus restaurant and hotel"...may be a brothel!
The balustrade of the terrasse is in plastic and comes from guard rails of a french HO railway station.

Here is a two-shop building, from the same materials.
One side shows a fashion-shop (called "fashion of Paris"), and the other shop is an early fruits and vegetables'shop.
The rear side of the house shows small backyards, which one has a pigeon house (the small holes in the wall).

Then a Post-office, a laundry and a garage for cars and bikes.
This one is made of lagging, cardboard and drinking straws, rhodoid too.

And the last : a one storey house with shops.
Made of insulating material too, and the roller shutter is made of plastic mosquito net.

That's all for vietnamese cities.
I have some vietnamese huts to show later.

Bye!

Thanh Thuy.

Nice! Are all your buildings in the same scale? If so, it would be great to see a shot of them together!

This is fantastic, Thanh! We don't do enough of this - recording our own lives in paper. I am fascinated by your buildings.

The two-story building on the first and second pictures reminds me of the inn I stayed for about two months when I was in Son La province located north of Vietnam.
As Carl said it's interesting to replicate the buildings around us

Your "Two shop building" is delicate appearing with the little gate and ladders, flower box, really very nice. Your talent to scratch build is refreshing.

All the buildings are 1/72 or next to this scale.
I shall post several "towns" I made at this scale, if you have an interest, and with explanations.
Thank you!

Carl
Thanks a lot : I like to give some "life" to my models.
I think that I shall build a model of my home: I dream of doing it for a long while.

I replicated houses from the town of Cao-Bang and Lang-Son, next to the chinese frontier.
I never travelled to Vietnam, even I use a vietnamese nickname, or study vietnamese language, but I have some knowledges of History, Geography and Culture of this contry...that I love!

Thank you very much!
As I wrote above, I try to give "life" to my models, and small details can do it easily.

Bye

Thanh Thuy.
