Lincoln Cathedral Galilee Porch.
]First there is the field trip. I take lots of photographs. Next, I take measurements and start by drawing a few plans. Then I sit and think how I can make it an easy build ( for you ) before building the test piece. I try the test piece for size, eat some mince pies, drink some coffee, walk to the shops, buy a rat trap and then... finally, I start to draw the piece at twice the published size. My close vision is crap! Next, after I have dragged a conifer into the house and festooned it with lights and glass spheres ( am I mad? ) I shall start work on the nave. Actually, I will need to work out a better way of making the western parts generally. They look fine in terms of proportion but I feel there is a more elegant way of making them.

More of the Galilee Porch.
Thanks for that encouragement. Anyway, here's a bit more. Before Christmas, I may have time to sort out the nave and its aisles.

More Lincoln
I have been trying to simplify the way in which the western parts are put together. By making the lower stages of the two neighbouring towers as one piece, I have eliminated the problem of either one of them leaning ( even though in real life, one of them does! )
The Norman gables which flank each of the western towers, were very satisfying to draw and look really good when reduced to their proper size. Unfortunately, the small building with the lancet windows in the background of one of the photos, turned out not to be long enough and so this weekend, I have had to re do both of them and their roofs. Next week, I shall post images of the western portions being put together at last. After that, the west screen and then the Chapter House. |

More Progress with Lincoln.
I have now drawn and test assembled the main parts of the nave. The much simplified west end including towers ( for ease of construction but no compromise on appearance ) is still a work in progress but here are a few drawings for that, including one being corrected with a scalpel. I now draw everything two and occasionally three times bigger than published size. It's easy on my eyes and produces a nice crisp finish.
