The palce is loosely based on part of city Hradec Kralove in Czech Republic
https://www.google.com/maps/place/Hr...05!4d15.825211 but is mainly fictional. Every time period represents typical setlement ot its time in this area, but it is no historical evolution of some specific place. |

Thanks for the information.
It reminded me of another model I made a few months ago. I didn't put it on the forum - it's not very interesting but now with a series of buildings and dates it changes things. Here's a couple of pictures., This town is on a base about 8 inches by 10. |

Not quite the same- the buildings are similar but the layout of the streets is different.
https://www.abicko.cz/clanek/precti-...-pevnosti.html I have now finished 1217. It's not quite as good as 717. The parts do not fit as well so I had to make a few changes. But no real problems so it is still a pleasure to make. 1417 will have to wait a while - I need to sort out more card for the base. Cheers Mike |

It just gets better and better. Is that an old Peco model railway background sheet I see there?

Philip,
That's right! I've had it for years. I glued it to a sheet of card and it's getting very tatty so I bought a couple more from the local Bluebell Railway shop. It will make another appearance shortly on another model.. Cheers Mike |

I've jumped forward another 200 years. You will notice that the tower and church have become a little more impressive while the contours are flatter.
This is 1417 and the dioramas get more complicated as we move onwards. I'm glad to find that the quality of the kits has remained high, but as I only have a small drawing of the parts plus a few very small drawings of the finished model it takes a while to get enough confidence to start cutting! I'm still enjoying the build but have to wait a while until I can get suitable card for the base. Till the next episode.. Cheers Mike |

In 1417 The 100 years war between the French and English had just started.
We now move on 200 years to a more peaceful 1617. Elizabeth I had died in 1603 and the crown passed to James I - The first of the Stuart kings. My building has gained a completely different building with a big house and ornate gardens. Again the quality of the kit is very good, but the instructions are a little basic for a reasonably complicated layout. I've included all the instructions I have. From the instructions you may be able to see that the dome on the church is just two pieces joined to make a cross shape. I have added four pieces of paper to make it look more like an onion dome. The ground levels are quite complicated and I had to remake quite a lot of the Palace. I'm having a change of model for a while. Then I'll time jump to 1817! Cheers Mike |

Actually, Mike, the !00 years War was winding down in 1417. The English took a slight breather and decided to keep up their fighting skills by fighting each other in the Wars of the Roses which concluded in 1485 with the Battle of Bosworth. As for 1617, yep, a little more peaceful until 1618 when some chaps were heaved out of a window onto a dung heap in the Defenestration of Prague and thus began the 30 Years War...
