Bedzin Castle
This is the GPM kit of Bedzin Castle, located in southwestern Poland and opened in the 1300’s, replacing a wooden fort built earlier. It was to serve as a defensive military fortification that could thwart any invaders from the south. From the 1600’s to the mid 1800’s, it suffered setbacks and rebuilds including the housing of a Protestant church. In 1845, plans for the castle were scrapped and serious disrepair ensued. In the 1950’s restoration occurred again and a museum is housed there.
The GPM kit is scaled at 1:160. The textures are wonderful and the pieces fit well together. It is listed as moderately complex but my feeling is that it is more difficult than this rating. Given its angular nature and curvatures, it is interesting build and the overall look is pretty good. I had troubles with the railings but that’s a problem with my skills, not the kit. If there is a problem with the kit, it is the numbering of the parts. Let me say that the date of issue was 2012 and I was given the kit as a gift 2-3 years later. Then with my procrastination, I started the kit in 2020…so subsequent printings would have made the necessary corrections. For the 2012 version, some pieces are mislabeled, some are not labeled and there is occasional duplication of numbers as evidenced by the last photo. I offer this as advice for anyone who has the earlier kit.

Nice looking castle model.
So, where does part number 196 go?

Nicely made model.
I understand your comments about the difficulty rating! One thing that bothers me is GBM's habit of having parts that overhang the base - Malbourk is the same. Cheers Mike |

It's a great looking model. The tightly spaced battlements at the top of the round tower look like they must have been a nightmare to assemble.

Doug...part 196 goes anywhere I guess...can't go wrong??!!
Mike...thanks and yes I did debate whether to add the aqueduct and entrance but thought they added to the piece so I did it. Don...thanks so much. The battlements on the tower were completed over several days. My patience kept running out so I'd quit and do some more later. I'm just glad they came as well as they did.
