Hohenzollern Castle
I had thought of calling this "Coronavirus Castle" as it kept me reasonably sane from March through to early June. This is the Reprint of Hohenzollern Castle by Shreiber Bogen. If I were to build it again I'd start from the end, build the base first. The instructions can be a tad terse and one has to closely observe the minute numbers that are on some pieces or else the build can go gloriously haywire naturally.
The one problem I encountered in building it was that when I'd finished I felt very empty and it has taken a little time to fix on a new project !! |

Looks beautiful! Fully understand the need to hold on to sanity.
I currently have no place to display any models, otherwise some of the castles look extremely interesting. |

Dave Pete, thank you for the compliment. Display or even storage definitely is a problem. I have the Hindenburg hanging over my drawing table being closely followed by a Gotha bomber, both trying to catch up to a Viper. Meanwhile Frank Lloyd Wright's Robie House, Old London Bridge and Mont St Michel perch dangerously on top of bookshelves, all overlooking the Chrysler Building while there's an entire German village hiding out in a large plastic container. We won't talk about the unfinished pieces lurking in various other boxes just yet....

I try to do models that I can give away easily these days for that same reason, though I am now gathering too many on the table where I used to take photos. I will have to come up with another idea

Very nice build! These older hand drafted Schreiber models have an irresistible charm.
I know what you mean when saying that when you would start again, you would start at the base...., in that respect as a suggestion for a next model: Consider Burg Eltz, also from Schreiber. A great (and big) model, and.... also starts from the top. Seems like they all do. Take Mont-Saint-Michel from Instant Durable and there you again. Cheers, Erik |

Thank you, Vermin, eatcrow and sander for your comments and compliments. One has to wonder how many modelers' ceilings are filled with aviation models or are there rooms festooned with armored vehicles heading to collide with architectural wonders and other forms of transport. I've made models to give as presents, had to do repairs or look at them slowly gathering dust on friends' shelves. All have been received with enthusiasm nevertheless.

Nice model!
Like Erik, I would recommend Burg Eltz it was the first big model I made. I've still got it so it couldn't have been that bad to make. I understand your reticence. There have been times when a kit doesn't go well and I wonder if it's me losing my touch or just a bad kit. Then I find something I've always wanted to build and my fingers start to itch again ;-)) |
