Mixed-media Ice House, 1:87 scale
I needed a small industry to fit a specific location on a narrow peninsula at Scots' Landing. My ice house is Clever Models' "Creeky Roofing" paper model with doors modified from the kit and roof panels from Smart Models. The platform is scratch built from Midwest and Kappler dimensional lumber, stained with Weathering Mix from Hunterline. The platform was built on a scale drawing of "Atsan Ice" from (I think) an old Railroad Model Craftsman. The staircase is built with stringers from Northeastern Scale Lumber.

I wish my mom hadn't cleaned up when I went away to college. She got rid of my Railroad Model Craftsman magazines.
A very quality piece for your line there.

Another outstanding building of the era, and additional most welcome information about your railroad and its historic and gragraphic setting.
Many thanks. Don |

I have a favor to ask, sir. Would you mind doing a build thread on one of your buildings? I think a lot of us would like to follow your process in designing these little gems

David -
Where will the ice house fit at Scots' Landing? I am unable to locate it (although I am sure I will see it immediately once you say where it is). I have been moving rolling stock around Scots' Landing in my mind and, the more I do, the more I think that there is a passing resemblance to John Allan's Time Saver with a turning wye and a couple of extra spurs. Nearly 50 years ago, when I was stationed at the Presidio of Monterey, I worked the Andrews Branch of the G&D. After the operating sessions, we would sit in John's kitchen, drinking coffee and working switching problems on the Time Saver. Don |
