Vintage water castle

This little castle was published by the Dutch magazine Familiejournalen in 1926, I believe. I livened up the colors a bit using Photoshop, and printed it in a reduced size of 68% so it would fit on letter sized paper. It is not a model of an actual building, but is a fantasy or romantic imagining in the style of a 16th century French water castle.

I haven't had much time for modeling recently, so this is a "quick and dirty" build without internal lamination for strength. As a result it's not as stiff and sturdy as it could/should be. For a vintage model, the fit was surprisingly good. It isn't perfectly true and square, but few of these old designs are.

The build was straightforward, assembling the pieces in alphabetical order. To help the modeler, the cover page depicts the castle from multiple directions. One thing I found humorous is that in trying to fit all the parts on the page, there wasn't room for one of the decorative finials on one of the upper floor windows, so the designer simply drew it as if it were broken off. To reinforce that this detail was done "on purpose" the cover page illustration clearly depicts the damaged finial.

You guys sure know how to build the models that I am working on to get ready to print. I have been trying to do some Venetian models and the 'sotoportego' looking water entrance had me intrigued.

For a quick and dirty build, it is very nice, sir

Looks nice, Don. I was eyeballing that one to make.

Another thing I find humorous with some of these vintage models is how sometimes a glue tab is altered so it will fit next to another part on the page.

Thanks for your kind comments, gents.I found the water entrance interesting too, VK, A very cool feature. Yes, Doug, there are several cut away glue tabs on this model, too. When space is at a premium, you gotta do what you gotta do. Thank you, asettico. It really is a handsome little thing, and has an unmistakable vintage vibe to it.

Really outstanding. Colours and execution are first rate. I've downloaded this myself and now I know the quality to aim for. Thanks for the great pictures.
