1:48 scale wagon

I hope to display the house on a 12" square diorama. A major feature will be an abandoned horse drawn wagon so I hope this is the proper place to show the model.

My wife encouraged Santa Claus to bring me a laser cutter so, in anticipation, I did a lot of research and cobbled together plans and a kit for the wagon on my 2-D CAD program.

To put things in perspective, the wagon bed is only 2.5 inches long. The model consists of close to 200 parts, all paper. I used Wausau Bright White (0.009-inch thick) for the "metal" parts and Strathmore Series 300 Bristol Vellum (0.016-inch thick) for everything else.

I had never used a laser before but managed to produce acceptable results by the third attempt. I used Elmer's white glue to laminate the pieces, a rubber based adhesive called Walthers Goo for most general assembly, and a drop of CA to mount the wheels rigidly.

The first two photos show the underbody ... if the software will accept them.

I guess the images were acceptable so here are the remaining photos. They show the entire wagon.

Frankly, I am astounded at how effective paper is in this context. I doubt wood, with its oversize grain, could produce a nicer a model in 1:48 scale.

Great work on the house and the wagon. Both are amazing.

Nicely done. This reminds me of the Radley house from the film To Kill a Mockingbird.

This is excellent and would sit well on any top-quality model rail layout. Feel free to keep adding more 'stuff' lying around to add to the atmosphere!

I gave up on train layouts decades ago. With the length of time my models take to build, who has time for anything else?

I want to thank all of you who have commented.
