Notre Dame Cathredal, Paris

Hi All.

The lovely paper model of the Notre Dame Paris Cathedral made by CubicFun was modified with the addition of LEDs (2 sets) purchased from Michaels Store.

Very nice. I haven't done any of the CubicFun kits, but several have me interested.

Did it go together well? Or did you have to do adjustments?

The kit was a delight to build. Very well designed with perfectly cut-out pieces. I did find the need to use some glue. I did see the Cathedral in person many years ago and I was impressed by its beauty. It was very sad when the fire destroyed its roof and spire but the French are making incredible efforts to repair it.

I don't know if you have access to it, but there was an excellent episode of Secrets of the Dead, which I pick up on PBS, on Notre Dame. It came out not long after the fire. History of the building and changes throughout its years. It was aired so soon after the fire, my guess is that it was originally going to be on the latest rehabbing, but re-worked for post-fire. If you can catch it OnDemand or something, I would recommend it

Thank you, I will look for that. I actually finished the model before I started on the tanker Jahre Viking which is a work in progress. The architecture of the Cathedral is somehow very pleasing to the eye. Perfectly proportioned and the LEDs were not hard to do at all.

A impressive model, to be sure. The lighting really makes it shine.

Very nice, and the lighting gives the model a dramatic effect. I just completed a Notre Dame from Editions MIrontaine, a fun and simple tab and slot kit.

I'm sure we'd all love to see any pictures you have of the build. I understand some people have put small cameras inside to produce "lifelike" pictures of the interior.

Thanks, everyone

To DAVELANT, this is just a kit in a box, a very good one I must say so I did not document the build itself. The instructions were very well done, the only issue is finding the correct (numbered) part on the sheets, they are all over the place.

Yes, it has a fully detailed interior as well, the model literally hinges open to reveal it. The LED wires and lights kind of mess it up although I tried to hide those the best I could. I would be happy to picture the interior and show how I did the LEDs if any of you would like.

It kit was not 'cheap' I think I paid $65 for the kit from Amazon and another $40 or so for the two sets of LEDs from Michaels store. Well worth it. I took it out of the model room to the living room for Christmas, kinda festive I think?
