My fears were justified ! the aprons were as bad a fit as the ground. Before I started on them I glued the whole thing to a base. This meant that when I started on the aprons, I could fit them to the walls and base at the same time. As with the ground I had to make new pieces. This time I used the parts and where the piece was too short I extended it by adding masking tape and cutting it to size. As I mentioned in an earlier note, I copied another wall and cut this to the size of the apron.
I'm attaching a few pictures to give you an idea. In one picture, you will see the amount of the wall I had to remove to make it fit. Once all that was done, it was a matter of adding a few stair cases and I decided to add a few flags. The ones provided were not too exciting and looked to be a bit small. Except for two that looked too big ! I therefore printed a Welsh flag and then reduced it to a reasonable size and made a few copies. I tried a few ideas for flag poles and finally ended up using thick thread covered in PVA then painted. Each flag is made up of two sides so while they are damp from the glue I fold them so they "hang in the breeze". The two bigger flags were hung from the main tower, I got this idea from seeing pictures of the recently revamped Dover Castle. It's not one of my favourite builds, but I certainly stretched my abilities and patience ! |
