ChristChurchCathedral

I was finishing this model when I heard of the quake in New Zealand. I was in touch with a fellow who lives 300 miles from the Cathedral but he didn't know if there was any damage. This was a free model offered by Canon and I built it as a virtual model. My wife's china cabinet is too full of paper models that I don't dare make any more. I now store my models on a thumb drive and can carry them in my pocket. :-) The sad part is I can no longer touch and hold my projects. Sorry, it was suppose to be a paper model. John

Virtual model

Hi Miles, I am an avid Train Simmer and I build structures and rolling stock for my railroad. I use a program called Train Sim Modeler for this purpose. I scan the images of the card model and import them into TSM and build the virtual model in this manner. There are other programs that would do the same thing. John

Radio New Zealand : News : Christchurch Earthquake : Minor damage to cathedrals

Sounds like the cathedral came through pretty lightly...

Thanks much for the report on the two Cathedrals. I hope there aren't any strong after shocks. John

Lots of aftershocks still rolling through some up to 5.2 (which would normally be news in their own right) but there doesn't seem to be much ongoing damage after the big shake and clean-up ops are well underway in the central city - biggest risk at the moment is probably the weather as a decent flood (like those that rolled across the North Island yesterday) could really screw up already weak power, water and sewage utilities...

This just in

Cathedral cracks being checked
Meanwhile, cracks in Christchurch Cathedral are being investigated.
Cordons have been set up around the cathedral and an inspection is under way to determine how serious the damage is.
The cracks may not necessarily be related to Saturday's 7.1 quake and the many aftershocks.
The cathedral earlier received an all-clear from engineers, but Dean Peter Beck asked them to return to check the cracks.
Dean Beck says there is no need for alarm: the check is simply a precautionary measure.

Radio New Zealand

Thanks much for the link to Radio New Zealand, better than short wave. I can now follow the clean up operations and hear some of the local interest stories associated with the quake. Too bad other world news has now put the quake on the back burner. John
