Good luck with the build, Merzo! this is going to be a big one. I built Leo's Voskhod a while ago, and like that one, this is a beautiful model to.
Nice compass cutter you got there.

I'll keep a close eye on your build, as this is a model I want to tackle. Please do keep us updated.
Last night, I was ordering some ship railings at AvantCard - Paper Models (http://avantcard.biz/paper_models) and while I was on the website, I noticed the laser-cut expanded metal mesh and I thought, "Gee, that looks like it would be perfect for the grid fins used as air brakes on the Soyuz." So I ordered some.

That is looking good, Merzo! As usual, I would say. The usage of the little sprocket for the rivets is a very cool idea. Did you use aluminium foil (or something thicker like mayonaise tube again?:))
In the build of my Voskhod R7 I did not use so much inner structural reinforcements. I used 200 grams paper and it was sturdy enough.
Good luck with the rest of the build!

Excellent build and pictures. I especially like your comparison photo in front of the monitor picture. It is hard to tell the difference. Using the aluminum tape and the sprocket are very good ideas. Thank you for the pictures. Awaiting further developments.

I like that name, 'Repka'. The description fits the shape indeed.
Just like I call the Vostok ball capsule by its original name 'Sharik' I will call the 'Semyorka' booster parts 'Repka' from now on. Is there a plural form?
Your 'Repka' is looking good! The silver makes it very realistic.
Here are some surreal pics of those Repka-scavengers.
Just realised: the cyrillic "e" in Russian is more or less pronounced "yoh" Is it Ryopka then?
Leo09
10-31-2010, 03:23 AM
'Repka' in English is Turnip…
Carrot in Russian is “Morkov’ ”. Boosters of R7 was called “Morkovka” = The little carrot.:)
Valery Chkalov a Russian aircraft test pilot (famous 63-hour flight from Moscow, Soviet Union to Vancouver, Washington, United States via the North Pole on an Tupolev ANT-25 plane (June 18–20, 1937) named the Earth as 'Sharik' (‘the little ball’). He dreamed to fly around Earth.
The first cosmonauts joked: ‘Let’s fly around Sharik!’.:D

Merzo, the Semyorka I built was the Voskhod carrier. It was without serial numbers on the sides. At least, Leo did not put them on. I cannot find any numbers or letters.
However, the attachment can be done in phases:
The straps holding them together at the bottom can be attached to three of them before 'hugging' the core stage. The last two straps are added when you have the 4 Morkovka's wrapped around the core. I used white glue first and afterwards, I sealed the straps at the booster side with superglue (CA).
I used very loose elastic rubber bands for help.
After that I glued the Morkovka's to the top clamps.
Good luck!

This is the second stage, I presume. The first stage has red cones inserted then?

Thanks for the information, Leo!
Boosters of R7 are the first stage. Central block (block A) is the second stage. Block "И" (photo) is the third stage. So, they PULL OUT the perspex cones before assembling second and third stages.
The technician comes down the steps, I think.
