I could go to any of the forums with this question, but this is where all the designers hang out :P

I'm working on a Zero right now and my texture is #2 :

Now that is so boring i could fall a sleep... :-\

Are there any tricks to make textures more like #1 ?
What program do you guys use for texturing ?

I can't claim to have great expertise in this area, but if you are using a vector based paint program, I would suggest switching to a bitmap program, such as photoshop or gimp, and getting real familiar with the airbrush tool, layers, opacity settings, noise filters, etc. Some of the folks in the forums are insistent to the point of obsessing about using only .bmp or .tif file format. For the effect you are trying for, a certain amount of noise is a good thing, so I would suggest .jpg for saving your files. Some of the British diskmags have good tutorial files on line. I'd give you some links, but unfortunately am using my laptop right now, which had a recent lobotomy when the hard drive went TU and lost my favorites folder. When I get back to the desktop, I'll check for what tutorial links I have on it.

Hi Triop ;D
My experience may be useful to you. I used Rhino to build surface and projected 2D pattern on surfaces like attaching decals on them. Then uroll and export to Photoshop to edit color.
1. Modeling and projecting pattern on surface

2. Unrolling

3. Editing color by photshop (plenty of tools to make it be looked realistic)

Thats pretty cool Kooklik! Is there any chance you could give an outline of the steps you took in photoshop? :)

Maybe a tutorials section is in order already.....

Seeing kooklik submarine I could say the same thing.

2 tips for you Triop:
- try make the models on a bigger resolution ,it will be a little harder for you , but they will look better and it's easier to add some texture
- not a tip , more a suggestion: make a IRIAF Shafeq using the F-5 as a base.

lol about the shafeq ;D ...i've been thinking about that also, so maybe I will.
I'll finish the Zero in small size, and next model i'll try to do bigger 8)

(next model wil be a pilatus pc-7 btw ;) )

Good idea! Chris. I am willing to share my method. If you create "Tutorial" forum is OK , I think.
