I'm very happy to announce third model designed by Lukasz Fuczek to join our offer - legend of Japanese Army Air Force, Nakajima ki-43 Ic Hayabusa (Oscar) flown by Maj. Tateo Kato, commanding officer of 64th Sentai in Burma.

More information available at http://www.gremirmodels.com/ki-43_ic_hayabusa.htm

Great, another one for the 'must get' list! Although, I much prefer the Hayate (Frank).

Cheers,
Mike

Ok, this is probably a silly question, but what is the general color scheme of this model?

Dark olive uppers (nicely weathered), grey (natural metal?) lowers, squadron markings in white. Options to build seperate control surfaces. Reminds me of the Gremir Ki-44 in complexity and style. You want it! You know you want it! If you finish your Beaufort AND if you are one of the top three AND you don't want one of the printed prizes - why, the Ki-43 could be yours!

Dan -- Mike is best placed to answer this question [and I see that Troll beat me to it], but I will put my two cents in. I can't say for sure what the model colors are because I am in some kind of a doo-loop that is preventing me from completing the registration, so I can't get at the model and all the photos are in the white Beta build color.

However, the cover illustration shows an aircraft of the 64th Hiko Sentai (which I would translate as "64th Air Regiment"). The aircraft appears to be [and Ron confirms] in the S1a scheme of olive green upper surfaces and natural aluminum under surfaces. The spinner is white, as is the broad diagonal arrow on the vertical stabilizer -- pointing from upper rear to lower front -- the emblem of the 64th Sentai. There are two white fuselage bands.

As you may know, the 64th was the famous "Hayabusa Sentai" that was commanded during a part of its SEAsia service by Major Tateo Kato and I think this is his airplane.

Correct, Don - this is Kato's plane.

Here is the color scheme of the Hayabusa http://wp.scn.ru/en/ww2/f/768/65/0/11

Reason for the beta-build photos of the plane is simple - I cannot show photos of the model published by Answer and nobody had a chance to build the GreMir version yet...

Some interesting videos of the 64th Sentai made during the war, including in-flight shots of Kato's Ki-43:

The first clip referenced by Don seems to be a mashup of official footage of the Ki-43 and scenes from a 1943 propaganda movie from Toho about Kato's 64th sentai ("Hayabusa Sentotai cho Kato"). Or maybe the whole thing is taken from the film. What's especially neat is the "Hayabusa" song that's presented in its entirety via clips from the movie. Another posting on YouTube says that the film is currently available on tape or DVD. (Don, do you have any info on this?)

Bill -- I do not have any info on such a DVD, but will be on the qui vive for it. I intend to play the Hayabusa Song when I build my GreMir Ki-43 (with a little Trotskiy Hayabusa or two on the side). I may have to postpone work on the Shoki in order to do so.

when I built up JSC's HMS Hood I kept playing and hearing Johnny Horten's "Sink the Bismarck" song all the while. I'm glad it just wasn't me!
