for the moment i can only work on CGI end of things. I have the Seawolf ready for test build but have to wait. so not wanting to sit idle, i started working on this.

that will make a great looking ship.. I noticed some artists drawings of that a few months ago and thought it would make a super paper model. I send them to you in case you have not found them.

nothing
07-26-2009, 04:43 PM
i probably have them i scoured high and low for images of this ship.:)

been adding details here and there. threw on some color to break the monotony of staring at white forms for hours.

also added a MQ8 Firescout. think im going to finish up the fire scout. any one feel like testing the scout when i get it done? it will be 4.2 cm at the rotor.

it will look good when it is ready, I love the way the bow is, gives it a nice line. Really sleek in the drawings I have seen of it.

Every time I see what you're up to (and there seems to be a new project every time I look!) I can remember back to the times when all you seemed to do was build other people's models and quite well too...

You've come such a long way in such a short time as a designer and you are pumping out some amazing stuff, this just being one more example to add to an ever growing list...

Three thumbs up... keep up the good work!

thanks jaffro! a little story. i tought myself 3d modeling years ago. after learning that i just had no idea what to do with it. so i quit for a couple of years. then i found paper modeling. all the models i built gave me a basic understanding of how things work. watching other design threads i realized i had found an outlet. ive had a lot of help along the way. and still have a way to go to get to the level of barry, kooklik, and ken. when i get settled into my new house i plan on getting back to some builds.

i started hashing out the SH-60. i still have a problem figureing the level of detail to translate to paper.

the big rule I learned in art class was if you make something detailed that may be small it draws the eye into that part. seems if the helicpoter is detailed then it would draw the eye of when on display to that point of the ship in you case.

After all paper modeling as far as I see is no different when displayed to a acrylic painting or oil painting. i am sure there or some people who find a not really detailed painting to put behind their model displays to draw the eye in to the models.

Heh! I think you're higher than that Trent. Judging by how the complexity and texturing of your models has increased in quality I'd say you are definitely well on your way to becoming his equal (or better). You've got a gift and you're using it. Quite well, I might add.

Looking good nothing!

Interesting looking ship that one, but I imagine it'll be about 50 years before the Australian Navy decide to purchase them... we've just taken delivery of our first Abrams and I believe we still have F1-11's in active service. :(

nothing
09-07-2009, 10:22 AM
the f-111s are still very capable aircraft. there are those in the us armed forces that believe we should have kept ours longer than we did. besides dont yall have the Armidale? or is that the brits? that will probably be my next ship.

re Barry's comment about the arc lights - hate to ask but where are they located on the top?

they are the line of "spotlights" just above the hanger doors.

ARGH! hulls - the bane of my ship building life ;)

actually my hull(since im new at this) is a lot simpler than than most. plus the whole ship is modular. each section is built than set atop the next etc. well see when its done.

doctormax
10-14-2009, 03:46 PM
is that brushed aluminum look you put as the texture. i think that would look good a bit like the artists impressions I seen ;)

nothing
10-14-2009, 08:22 PM
no. actually what i did is took a section from a hi res picture of the ship and used it as a texture block and applied to all the side faces.i was originally going to go with the standard overall grey but all my pictures show it as "dirty". not having the skill to "paint" an accurate texture i sttled on this method to give it some personality.

doctormax
10-15-2009, 03:55 AM
that is the way to do it find a good picture and use that no better way really. it will look good I am thinking the hull is a bit darker than in that picture

nothing
10-15-2009, 09:17 AM
yea it may be a bit dark but depending on the picture sometimes it looks darker and sometimes lighter. i think this is a good compromise for my skills.

i appreciate the nice comments:)

added the sponsons and laminated some texture to the top.(dont want to build another) and attached the top.getting close but still a bunch of details and of course the black hawk.

well the only thing left is the black hawk. and i must admit after studying Barry's blackhawk, i came real close to trashing mine. but i knuckled down and started building to see what the end looks like before i decide. mine is somewhat daunting as i ended up with 60 pieces.(Barry's comes in around 30)
this is 14 of them-

doctormax
10-22-2009, 03:49 AM
i was born lazy, trent if it was not working the sea hawk i would just do a texture of a picture of sea hawk on one of the hangar doors, or to be just a little more adventurous just the nose emerging. like the way airdave i think is doing the noses of planes to hang on a walls.

yes i am that lazy.. ;)
