Well. My Sketchup Hellcat model is nearing completion. Here's the scoop - This will be my first time actually releasing my own model, so I expect there to be some problems with parts. Also, I'm still deciding what scale to release it in, so I may be interested in a simultaneous 1/72 and 1/48 beta. It'd be nice if it was a fairly quick build - if possible.
Some pictures are attached.
I'm guessing that the beta build will be ready in a week or so.

man, I would really love to try a Tank build!!

but I just don't think I can get it done in a timely manner
with all the other projects I am working on.

Looks good though!

looks realy nice. cant tell but will the track be a solid "strip"?

For now I think so. I don't think I'm up to doing more than that! Also, I don't think that individual tracks would be feasible in 1/72. I do hope to make it hard to tell it's flat, though!

for my Mini Sherman, I built a flat one piece track using actual photos of a Tank track.
I created a small link section from the photos and reproduced it into an entire track and then overlaid it into the model design.

at a small scale, it works quite well, because the photo-realistic element hides the flat one dimensional reality.

I am hunting for the image file right now...would you like it?
just tell me what format

That's fine, I think I may have pulled every M-18 image that was usable off the web. There are actually at least two different types of Idler/Track combinations. I've chosen to go with one of them.
I'm almost done with all of the Sketchup work, next it goes to Inkscape for coloring and editing.

You should check with Don (boosed) on papermodelers, as he is close to an M-18 I believe at the army war college. I think that's where he and it are located. At the very least, he posted some pictures a while back of an M-18

Print it flat, print it again and cut out what would be the high sections and glue them onto the flat print. This should give a solid built up look and keep it simple.

Good Subject Ryan. As for scale - most of the paper models that I've seen & built are; 1/72 - 1/50 - 1/25. NOBI has put out some 1/35th scale that work well with p_____c figures :o) & Jules has some that are 1/33 - 1/34 - 1/43. Look forward to this one, not enough WWII/Korea Armor in paper.

Ryan - I was AWOL from the Forum when you started this thread. As you know, we have an M18 Hellcat at USAHEC. Let me know if you need any close up images of any parts. I understand that you have other irons in the fire, but I hope you do complete this design. Don

There was an M18 Hellcat at the WWII Victory Museum, Auburn, Ind. in 2005.
I assume that it is still there.

Hey guys, sorry for getting stalled on this, but I got married just over a month ago, and life's been a bit hectic for most of the past year. I'm going to see if I can get this to the beta soon. It's mostly a matter of unfolding it.

Not a problem for me.

I already have more models than I will be able to build before I die.

A new wife is more important.

Be sure that you take good care of her.

Wargamers would like it in 1/48 (28mm scale) 1/72 (20mm scale) & 1/100 (15mm scale)

1/100 is a relativelely easy scale to get from 1/72 (print at 72% fullsize) so I guess you could plump for 1/48 & 1/72 with a scale bar included to assist in re-scaling .

BTW I'd love to make one of these!!

I want to make an M3 white scout car but none are available so I guess its going to be my first design project.

There's another great scale, H0 - 1/87. There's a full of accesories, houses etc in this scale ....my collection of AFV's is in H0 scale...

Hey what do you use in sketchup to lay it flat and add tabs?
Just wondering cause I like to use sketchup and Im trying to find an addon to let me do that.
