i have a lot of hi rez pictures. but putting everything at the right size is just guess work. so this wont be 100% accurate in that regard. of course neither was LCS2.
but plodding along with the details. and details.im about mid way up the ship now. and ive only chosen to use about half of what i see.

@Chris thank you!
@barry- i am using pepakura. i just cant afford the programs that have the embedded unfold aspects. what i did for the LCS2 was created a double sided plane in the shape of the safety nets. then went back and "painted" a crosshatch pattern on them. i used a fine pattern to try and hide most of the white spaces. kinda forms an optical illusion sorta. i may end up with same thing here. still puzzeling over it. aside from using scratch build techniques im not sure how else to get the idea of screens across.

just a "couple" more things. another problem with this is deciphering the details between the sea trials configuration and the service configuration.

Thanks Nothing looks even more impressive I think I will have a word with Plastic Bonsai his program seems to do it for the rigging and rails. Let you know if he has the soloution. He did send me a render which was the equal of anything I have seen.

It looks like you've backed a winner. Or more specifically, both winners. The US Navy originally planned to test both designs and then select one for full production. However, they've chosen instead to build both designs (http://www.strategypage.com/dls/articles/LCS-Competition-Ends-In-A-Tie-11-17-2010.asp).
Enjoy!

started putting on the wee bits. aerials, counter measure, and what appear to be PA horns. theres quite a few of em all around. the little cones were too tedious for me to do all 16 to so i made some resin casts of them. spent most of today editing the final parts, have a half a page left to edit. then i can print and test em.

heh heh - seeing the flight deck nets reminds me of a funny story....
When we were on a Caribbean cruise there was this one guy that wanted do get out of the navy in the worst way. Not the sharpest tool in the shed. We were underway at about 20 knots and this guy goes to the fantail and jumps overboard! The aft watch signals it in and we start to come about. People head back searching and cant find the guy! What the &^## happened to him in those calm waters! Turns out he got stuck in the nets ;) still given the boot for abandoning ship.

When I studied naval architecture I was surprised to learn that almost a quarter of the class was to deal with all the math surrounding launching. There are people who totally specialize in it. My instructor's comment was, "Well, they gotta put it in the water somehow - or else build it there!"
Historically, there have been ships launched that immediately sank, but I think the most recent major ship was in 1903.
This link (http://www.lmlcsteam.com/?page_id=10) from Lockheed-Martin shows a great deal most about the future USS Fort Worth, including a ton of building pictures. Sorry, there was only one of the thrusters and it wasn't very good. (Picture #9)

those were awesome pictures. i happened on a picture of the lcs2 that showed (not clearly) that it had 4 vector nozzles. so i made an assumption (and you know how that goes) and place 4 on lcs1. im sure as time progresses material will be released that will necessitate a redesign. however i am very happy with what i accomplished with little solid resources.

I see that the LCS seems to be going to get (http://www.strategypage.com/htmw/htsurf/articles/20110114.aspx) the Griffin missile, in place of a navalized version of the Army's PAM (Precision Attack Missile). The Griffin (http://www.dodbuzz.com/2011/01/11/navy-close-to-choosing-griffin-missile-for-lcs/) is a scaled down version of the Hellfire, originally designed for Navy helo's.
Unfortunately, the LCS is coming in for a lot of flak lately. The problem is that the mission for which the ship is intended seems to be incompatible with the ship's design. Basically, the Navy traded some Weapons and Damage Control for Increased Speed. But those extra 10 knots may not be valuable for a unit that fires missiles, but Damage Control and Weapons are important for a unit that may be alone along a hostile shore. There is little debate that they're going to build some, but probably fewer than expected. A few relevant articles from the USNI Proceedings are:
No Need for High Speed (http://www.usni.org/magazines/proceedings/2009-09/no-need-high-speed)
and
Wrong Ship at the Wrong Time (http://www.usni.org/magazines/proceedings/2011-01/wrong-ship-wrong-time).
In any case, I thought y'all might like to know. Speed up your builds!

Don't be depressed.
The design history of the US Navy is of ship designs that everyone maligns, until they get into combat. If everyone was happy with the design - that'd be bad.... <GRIN!>

Exactly, remember the Spruance class destroyers. A lot of the same complaints there. Like the LCS it was intended that they would be fitted with new weapons systems as they came online, leading to the argument (now being wielded against LCS) that they were toothless and too much faith had been put in paper weapons systems. Well, lo and behold they were eventually fitted with Harpoon and Tomahawk, and now everyone misses them. Of course, unlike LCS, they did extremely well in their primary role (ASW) whereas it is questionable that LCS is even capable of carrying out it's intended mission. But the main point is only time can judge the LCS concept.

In the video from the LCS 3 (http://www.lmlcsteam.com/?page_id=10) page, at around 26 seconds there's a view of the stern with visible propulsion systems, much better than in the slideshow
I don't understand anything that's there, but the image is much better than the one from the slideshow (one of the videos with a ship launch picture)
