View Full Version : Free Beer!

I have mentioned free beer so many times that I thought it was time to make good on that promise.

I do not know if anyone has done this yet...let's hope not.

This is prototype 1. This was meant for envisioning my idea in 3d reality. I wanted to see how close to a glass bottle I could make this look. Pay no attention to the shape of the bottle, or the label, or the cap (or the HUGE DENT in the bottle at the main label). These were thrown in for a preview of the full effect.

I plan many bottle shapes in brown and green, and will supply a few labels...also working on cans as well.

I first assembled the model, then brushed a watered down mixture of glue over the bottle (to hide glue marks), then sprayed with a clear gloss. I glued labels on afterwards.

What do you think?

Looks pretty real!

As Dorothy L. Sayers said, when she worked for the advertising agency employed by Guinness in the 1930s: "Guiness is good for you!"

Another relevant motto I remember from reading the ads in the RAF Flying Review in the early-50s, "Beer -- it's lovely!"

My daughter is over in Ireland now and the first thing she did when she got there was to tour the Guinness Brewery. And as a paper modeler herself, she'll get a big kick out of this one. Always something refreshing from you, Phil! Here's a toast to your skills!

Heh heh, always like reading and viewing from you Jim!

B-Manic, those labels are way cool.

I first considered doing many different bottles with many different labels...now, I decided that I will do 1 set of labels with each bottle design, and offer a blank bottle so you can do your own. The guinness bottle is incorrect, so, I am calling it the prototype still. I will draw a new bottle for guinness, then the prototype will disappear.

Thanks for all your posts, this is turning into a fun project!

Great cartoon, Jim. Of course, they laughed when paper milk cartons appeared and then they laughed when the paper wine jugs appeared (which my Australian friends in Korea called "Chateaux Collapsible"). Can paper beer bottles be far behind?

Well...I tried the first duff prototype and it turns out I mis-calculated a part or two...as if I drank some of those giggly suds...I redrew the burps...er...I mean PARTS, and will be attempting proto-build-#2.

Terribly exciting isn't it?
