Hi, I'm building the Proton M with her launchpad.
Because I'm from Germany and my english is not so good, I write in German.
I hope, it's okay and you can read this....

Downloaden hier:

Space flight paper modelling (http://www.cardmodels-r.narod.ru/index-e.htm)

Fotos von Leo's Bau:

Picasa Web Albums - Joe - Proton (http://picasaweb.google.com/jepolch/Proton#)

-- literal translation via Google--
Welcome to this forum! You can see when you put your sentence simply use one of the many translation engines on the Internet. Just as well for example Merzo it does. Sometimes there is something strange results but they are also funny. Many people here speak no German.

The Proton rocket from Leo is a good model to build. I myself have already built one. Cutting the interstage is a tough job, but the result is very beautiful.

Thank you..now I have translate via Google...

I have been wearing for some time with the idea of a model of Leo's side to build .... Now let it be and that is the Proton.
I've found in the relevant forums that I know no assembly report, although the downloads are already a few days ... I think it will please Leo motivate and, if time someone builds the part.

The sheet consists of 4 parts, the Proton M (you can also build the Proton K), the mobile launch tower, the launchpad and derm transporter. Scale is 1:96.

Photos of Leo's construction:

Picasa Web Albums - Joe - Proton

First I build the rocket.
It starts with the A Level. Which consists of the tank and 6 Oxident Fuel tanks and the engines.
First, the Oxident tank is manufactured. The manual is quite good and eliminate ambiguity, the above Photos.
After assembly of the cylinder, the lower half of the adapter to the stage B is carefully cut and installed. The metal pins are used to hold the upper part.
Then moves on to the base. This must be made carefully, otherwise the rocket is wrong ....

Then ever, the parts for the 6 tanks prepared ....

mk310149

Was tun?

Google-Translation:

It goes with 6 tanks further .... The photos show the progress. It works quite well.
After the holding parts are attached to the hull, the tanks can be glued in turn.
Quite simple, but .....
... As you can clearly see the tanks in the base area larger than the base plate, is also clearly visible in this by reinforcing the cardboard with the edge.
What to do?
First I have to bow to the plate again printed with 110%.
Since the intermediates to the tanks were on it. So I could double by the white back of it. Then I glued a white strip around the bottom, which covers the Pappkanten. Finally I cut the base and glued the images between the individual engine fuel tanks. this has actually worked well.
Now only assemble its nozzles, glue and finish .... No way! http://www.kartonist.de/images/bruell.gif
I had forgotten to cut the holes in the base plate, which was not recorded ... The engines are in fact plugged in part ...
Well, quite a Pfriemelei, which subsequently cut out, but I ended satisfactorily.
The first phase of the proton is completed ...

Quite an inventive solution, Michael.
By the way, when you see parts with a red crossed-out section, they are supposed to be cut out or off.
Übung macht den Meister! And very good results so far. a Nice clean build.

The second stage ...

no construction problems. All it's easy.
Just a small mistake ... maybe to see it in the last photo. But surely only by people who know exactly the proton ....

Whoever finds him .......gets to keep it ... ...:)

I think it's the small fairings on top. You forgot to fold the sides inward to make them pointy. nevertheless a very fine build so far.

When it comes to the launch pad, it takes up a lot of space. I started with the launch pad itself and also made the erector part of the display, but it became too big in 1/96. The launch pad itself however, is a very nice and complicated part. There are even moving parts that hold the Proton to the pad! It is a bit harder than the rocket itself so take your time with it.

good luck!

mk310149
11-30-2010, 04:32 PM
No, thats another point. I have made it so I have seen it in the pictures.
But I have turned the plate with nozzles and interstage a bit too right, so that now the supports (B16) are not in line with supports A6.....

And here ist stage 3..

BTW thank you for the tip for the launch pad!

Extraordinary work! Your Proton epitomizes what I mean when I tell people card models can be at least equal in quality to plastic/resin kits, and in the hands of a skilled craftsperson like you, superior.

I still have to butcher a few more models before my card modeling skills are up to building one of Leo's marvelous kits.

12-04-2010, 04:38 AM
Thank you very much for all your compliments!:)

Now the first part of the launch pad is completed, the leek platform ...
The building is wonderful, is not too difficult, although there are many moving parts.
The assembly took place in the order of the photos ... until the upper platform, then the adapter with the sliding parts, then the subfloor.
There is increased appropriately with cardboard, otherwise they will be somewhat unstable. However, care must be taken strongly on dimensions, because the function of the access doors and the support rods could be affected ...
Glue So after the assembly of the body, the board ...
And only to the extent of the false floor! This is also a good parallel for this part.
The upper deck is partially reinforced from below. (On the edge leave space for the tape, otherwise it will be too high and you see after the side of the cardstock ..
At last, the access doors to the holding of the rocket tubes (which are open to mobile and !!!), then the Proton can be used.

Now I have build the "Adjusting Unit" into the platform and the railway ist ready...

Than we can go to the Transporter...

In the moment I'm working at the transporter...I think that is the difficultest part, because the clamp will be movable...

Wow! That's nice! nice work, Michael.
I never got that far with the pad structure. Leo's design is beautifully detailed. Did you use a hollow punch (Locheisen) for the holes?

mk310149
12-07-2010, 03:36 AM
Yes, I use a hollow punch for any holes if it passed...the big holes I cut with cutter, the smallest with a needle..

Great work. Having built Leo's Proton myself, I've been thinking about whether I should build the launch pad and following this thread has given me some good ideas.

If I may suggest something, though, you should check out a Japanese punch drill. They are also sometimes known as a Japanese book drill or Japanese screw punch. You can find affordable ones on Amazon and elsewhere. I got mine here:
Amazon.com: Japanese Book Drill / Screw Hole Punch with 5 Bits: Home & Garden (http://www.amazon.com/Japanese-Book-Drill-Screw-Punch/dp/B000RL58DQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1291727038&sr=8-1)

I only recently discovered them after hanging out in the ship-building forum for awhile -- I'm building a WWII minesweeper -- and all I can say is I wish I'd gotten one much earlier in my cardmodeling career. It is a tool that comes with interchangeable bits that allow you to punch various sized holes. I could've found a million uses for it when I was building some of my launch vehicles. (And I'll get back to building spacecraft and launch vehicles, by the way. I just need to get this @#$%*! ship done as a change of pace, but I've discovered that many of the kit parts are wrong and virtually all of the details have to be scratchbuilt.)

mk310149
12-07-2010, 10:13 AM
Thank you for the hint.. I have such one:

https://www.amazon.de/Famex-3519-Lochzange-Hebelunterst%C3%BCtzung-Kraftersparnis/dp/B002W5VWCQ/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1291737767&sr=8-4

And now it goes on:
It's not easy, but in the end it moves .... big grin
I have enhanced openings for all axes with small cardboard rings because the holes could tear otherwise.
Unfortunately, Leo has obviously shortened compared with the testbuildpart, namely the three-point bracket on the left and right (see comparison photos), so that the part does not open completely ... confused
The rocket goes so only narrowly. But it works.

Now only the chassis and the remote controlled locomotive ...
