Well, as if I wasn't waist deep in projects alread, my boss asked me to do some classic cars for advertising for our Murphy North Carolina Store. A restaurant their has classic cars as the theme and wants a model for each of their forty tables. The model will be a car with DirecTV advertising on it with the offer of a $50.00 gift card for any customer that signs up with our Murphy store. First thing is first, some cars. The name of the place is the Chevelle, so I chose as a start a 1972 Chevelle Sports Coupe. These models will not need to be that detailed, just a general idea. So here is my start. Now for coloring and unfolding. I am not sure that this one is a classic or not, but it will do.

Unfortunately, I do not know much about cars. I don't even have a drivers license for this state as I never transfered my old one over when I moved here. I guess one day my wife will make me get one again but I really hate driving. I am having more fun with these cars then I had expected though. I need to make forty models (not all need to be diferent years or makes) and I think we will have a stack of printed sheets for the restaurant to give out as well.

that would be neat for them to hand out, so people can build their own, plus free advertising for you or papermodels or ecardmodels or whatever lol

Nice start - kind of fills the void between the ultra-detailed cars and the just-a-box designs. Commercial constraints any factor? One piece, tab and slot fold ups, or are you building them all?

ok, the rear bumper is a somewhat complicated part, because of the wedge-ish shape and the slightly scalloped shape.

I will make as many of these as I can, I do not know about doing 40 though!

I will be putting the finished kits in our download section as I get them done.

My definition of the word "classic" is looking just as good today as when it was new decades ago. And for me, the classic cars include the 1914 Stutz Bearcat, a Ford Model A roadster (could the rumble seat really work?), the 1936 Jaguar SS100, the Bugatti Atlantic, a 1936/1937 coffin-nose Cord -- and the Mercedes gullwing. These all are likely far outside the range of your particular project, but I'd sure like to have such models.

OMG!!!! I LOVE the '72 Chevelle! My family has a '72 Chevelle 350 Malibu. We drove that thing everyday for 20 years before it became my brother's high school car, and then mine. It's my inheritance too. :cool:

yale those cars would be antiques ,classic cars would be like late 60's to early 80's according to the national hot rod association

I've seen some blue ones. They were cool. But yeah, Orange Flame with white rally stripes would rock. Ours is Orange flame with a white vinyl hardtop.

This is great CT!!
good luck with this...nice to see some more Car models.

Can I make a couple of suggestions regarding the layout shown?...
keep the car body colour as a solid colour, not a textured pattern
and add stripes or line details to break it up.
Windows would look better as black or a gradient dark gray.
For chrome effect, gray works the best if you aren't very good at a chrome simulation.
(in the 60s and 70s, chrome was often repaired with aluminum paint, so the gray effect is acceptable)

How is this for orange? Too dark?

I also have a shot of the bumper shape, not quite perfect but close enough. The front bumper and grill assembly will be a bit of a pain too.

"Hugger" Orange (as all Chevy fans will correct you) is the Chevelle colour
and the white stripes are almost mandatory!

Hmnnn..... You may be talking about my "formative" years. So considering that I was born at the end of 1945, does that make me a classic or an antique?

Thanks AirDave. Hows this. I am also redoing the front bumper as well to better reflect the real car.

yale if you were a car you would be an antique

airdave

Antique:
Furniture = 100 years
Automobile = 50 years
Human = 65 years

In Automobiles "Classic" does not relate to age, it refers to the interest around the car.

CT...colours are much better!
SS (SuperSport) Stripes are a little off, but we get the point!

Original SS stripes might have originally been black, not white.

...but everyone likes 'em, and paints them in white!
Like this Chevelle pictured (which is NOT an SS)

As a many year vintage and classic car fan, I've always followed the Classic Car Club of America's definition: A CCCA Classic is a "fine" or "distinctive" automobile, either American or foreign built, produced between 1925 and 1948... Other factors, including engine displacement, custom coachwork and luxury accessories, such as power brakes, power clutch, and "one-shot" or automatic lubrication systems, help determine whether a car is considered to be a Classic.
Not saying there aren't lots of other wonderful automobiles (considering I love Citroen 2CV's and all kinds of brass-horseless carriage vehicles), but just think that the use of "classic" should be rather restristive. I'll go back to my hovel now.

did someone leave the hovel door unlocked again?

One of the cat's got it unlocked and I was able to sneak out for a bit.

Anyway, classic or not, nice job on the Chevelle, CT!

I started over, but got a better look I think. The front and back bumpers will look more true and the white stripes are better placed.:)

Well, done. As soon as I get some basic instructions done I will get this in the downloads for y'all. Or just save this image and print. I was shooting for 1/48 scale but I am unsure of the real scale.
