Doing a build thread for GreMir of the HMS Chiddingfold. Not in his offer yet. Does not appear to be a difficult model, there are 11 sheets of parts and 6 pages of instructions, appearance, template and diagrams. It is 1:200 scale. Don't know how it is exactly going to look until I finish!

This will be good!

I have this model and hope to build it some day. I have seen a German build on this ship, but look forward to seeing your approach to it, Terry.

Don

Don,
I think you are talking about the Badsworth ;)

Frame going together well, parts fit nicely and labeled well. A little over 16 inches in length.

Terry -- It looks great so far!

Mike -- Right. Once again, I posted before thinking: had missed Terry's comment that Chiddingfold isn't yet on offer, and confused one Hunt-class DE with another. If it had been painted red, I would probably have confused it with an LMS locomotive. However, I will make this right by ordering Chiddingfold as soon as it is on offer . . . and maybe someday I will try building the Badsworth that I do have.

So far everything is still going together well. Seems to be a simple model suitable for beginners or someone who wants a rest from the more challenging tasks. If you look close I had a little bubble on the bow plate along the keel. a slight cut fixed that. Then trimmed the bow to shape with scissors. Sanded the bow edge and the used super glue on it for stiffening.

Nice looking hull, I look forward to seeing more.

Finished sides of ship, looks good. I had to add a little strip at the stern to fill in a gap, not sure if I should have trimmed more or what. A little added length for trimming and fitting is what I would prefer, as I always seem to have a little extra (better) or a little short (durn) when I do the sides. Now for the superstructure.

Great step-by-step description! You make it look easy. It's an incentive to try such a ship.

First off, suggestions.
Glue all hatches to superstructure parts on all sheets, that way you don't forget them. I like separate hatches as they give a 3d effect.

Glue 35gp inside 35a and align with top edge to ensure alignment of conn deck.

Part 35fp is a reverse fold to go into 35e.

There is no diagram of part 41 so I used the appearance sheet to see what they were.

There is mention of part 43b on diagram of 43.

There are a number of little parts to challenge a beginner.

More detail on bridge, missing part 49f (reported), replaced with part 49e. Part37 al/ap not on diagram but I figured out where it went. 4th pic shows it.

Ship is coming along nicely and I can hardly believe at the speed of progress...
Part 49e actually has wrong color - totally my fault since I told Padre to substitute so please everyone pretend not to see it :(
This was corrected already and Grzegorz also modified sides to give some extra color just in case.

I appreciate all the detailed photos and commentary on the build, Terry.

And I enjoy seeing the usual GreMir responsiveness and conscientious attention to detail in action, Mike.

Bow done. As there was no diagram for the bow I had to use the General Plan sheet for parts and layout. Some parts not shown as to what they were for on assembly sheets but from experience:confused: I figured out what they were for:D. While building I do not put on parts that stick up or out as I have a tendency to knock them off as I move the ship around. I think now I will start on the stand and the props/rudder.

Nice work!

I know I said the props and rudder would be next, but as I said I have a tendency to break things that stick out sooooo:p. I am working on the aft structure. The underside of the 02 deck was not on the diagram but this is where they go.

Very clean work on the bracing of the aft deckhouse overhang. The pointy end looks very good, too.

All changes suggested by Padre are incorporated into the model.

If you continue at this pace, Chiddingfold will be available in no time ;)

Have to put the depth charge pics. up cause I complained that there was no diagram to show how they went together:mad:. But GreMir, hopefully understanding and patient, said that there was a diagram:) and I looked and there it was!!:p I must be going blind:rolleyes:. If all else fails.........read directions!

Working on midships and stack of Chiddingfold. Everything going together well and response from GreMir is great. I said that this would be a good model for a beginner earlier, now, maybe an advanced beginner. Model is looking good.

More midships structures completed, searchlight, 49mm gun, etc. All gun barrels were reprinted on regular paper so that they could be rolled tightly/easier and fit in slots better. That includes forward, mid and aft main guns.

Padre

! made an error early on at the bow:mad:. I put the wrong color gun mount there:(. Error is corrected and put in its rightful place at the middle of the ship:p. The guns are designed so that the barrels will go up and down but not side to side. With a little thought and work they could probably be made to do that if anyone wanted to.

Padre

Finished stern parts, ladders (missing one), aft gun mount and depth charge racks and launchers. Barrels of gun mounts are able to go up and down and as I said before, a little work and they probably could be made to turn also. You might see the number 70 on the stern deck, that will be removed by GreMir.

Completed screws, rudder, fore planes and sonar. screw shafts are internally braced with a round plastic strip.

Ships boats/davits and piping on stack. Used styrene rods for them. To those following this thread, thanks for the kind words.

Done with masts (small item remaining), rigging (a few lines not done) and finished radar and anchors. Going to do lifelines/railings now. I have been trying to figure out a few small parts and where they go and I keep looking for anything I have missed.

Pretty much done with HMS Chiddingfold by GreMir. It is now up for his approval. Some slight changes made by me as to my skills and efforts, none really noticeable.
