El Camino Del Ray (video) (http://www.brightcove.tv/title.jsp?title=1438490562).
Originally built in 1901, this walkway now serves as an aproach to makinodromo, the famous climbing sector of El Chorro.

The Kings walkway as one called it, quite amazing that the videographer is the only one attempting to walk the entire thing...UNTETHERED, you'll notice others that he is walking by are tied to a cable, yet he seems to walk with no fear.

Gotta go to spain!

Hell no!
Just watching it gives me vertigo....................

BTW according to Wikipedia this pathway was officialy closed after few people died but tourists, or rather daredevils, are still getting on it.....

No freakin' way would I walk that. ( I am slightly overweight ) but still. The concrete in not re-enforced and I wonder if the holes just rotted out or did falling stones call them. The guy who filmed this had incredible stamina as it seemed he was walking really fast. It would be a great setting for a "cliffhanger" movie.

Truth be known, I would be way too scared even tied off!
I'm no string bean anymore either, I saw that floor crackling with every step. I'm with you Michael, it makes me dizzy just watching.

I wonder how many died constructing it?

According to Wikipedia El Caminito del Rey has been closed by authorities since 2000 after 4 fatalities. It's proposed to restore the pathway - presumably with handrails.

Regards,

Charlie

I could barley watch the video without holding onto my desk for dear life

In my dreams... There I dare do much more and without a solid ground under my feet Who knows, one day I'll wake up floating somewhere in the air :)

Nope - it's not that I'm scared of heights per se, just not that adventurous.

I have reached that point in my life where my mind says " Yes, yes, yes" but my body says " oh God NO!".

I would try it after the repairs and handrails were done. Looks like a nice place to go walking around.:)

There is no way I would try it in the condition shown.:D

Exactly Phil.
But then I gave up being young and stupid in order to have a chance to be old and stupid.
I succeeded.
:D

(but I still like a bit of adrenalin and I have a theory that there are levels to being an adrenalin junkie)

15-20 years ago, I would have had no problem. Now I am too old and fat to even consider it.

By the way, I was scared of heights up unto I was like 21 or so. I was at Kincheloe AFB in the upper peninsula of Michigan and had to walk the rim of a million gallon fuel storage tank to "rescue" a cat. The eight inch rim scared the hell out of me, but orders were orders.

After that I never cringed at going to the top of the tanks.

The biggest one I get is the occassional jaunt up to 120+ mph on the local highway when there's no traffic around. Not really that bad since the car will do 160 - I'm only at 75% of maximum. Heck - normal highway speeds most cars exceed that percentage ;)

I was young and stupid once, too, but now middle aged and stupid. My wife won't watch when I windsurf on the ocean to the horizon, I don't know why, I mean she could at least call the Coast Guard or something, hey wait a minute....

It's awesome, but my heart was going 'thumpthumpthumpthump...' so I'd probably have to say no! ;) Amazing scenery, though.

Cheers,
Mike :)

except for the gnarly bit with the bare rail I'd give it a go downhill on my mountain bike. @30 years ago that is!

I might have tried it in college. But now, with wife and 9 month old no. To take a line from my mother of all people, "It's not the height that bothers me, it's the fall."

TheWebdude
04-28-2008, 05:49 PM
Actually it's not the fall. It's the sudden stop............

Yes "Cumulo Granite " has some very unyielding properties

willygoat

I say the fall because if I'm going that far, I have time to think about everything during the fall. I won't have to worry much after the stop.
