Thats right...I got a new Camera Phone.
Its got a fantastic media Player and full keyboard and stuff!
I like it!

http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t6/outlawzairbrushcom/link%20posts/newphone-1.jpg

My Olympus DSLR takes wonderful photos but it doesn't shoot video,
so I never played around like this before.

And this new cameraphone has a cool little video light and a bunch of controls.

Not a great camera I admit...but so what, its all about fun right?!
So, please don't compare it to your wonderful iPhone or uPhone or ETphonehome...
for nothing else but kicks, I thought I would have some fun.

Yes, I figured it would help me post some modeling stuff.

but first...how about a trip round the Kool Wheelz Custom Car Show.
Its being held down the street at the FLYING-UHU Coliseum.
No charge to get in...just a secret password.

LG makes really good stuff. My wife accidentally washed and dried my LG phone, the phone company wanted $299 to replace it. I took it apart, dried it out, and it works as if nothing happened. I purchased an LG Go phone to replace it for $100 dollars. It had better video and camera capabilities than the original. I like your Kool Wheel video, very Kool!!

LG are great, and like the logo says Lifes Good :) Great video for that one Dave - some phones take better video than others, but you're cruising there mate  Cool audio too ;)

Well, my LG is two months old and the screen is done.

haha about two weeks ago the screen stopped working.
just went blank.
Phone was still on, but no screen...so no control .

Took it back in to the store to get a replacement.
(Only two months old!)
Chatted with a Storeclerk...

"Sorry, we don't sell that phone anymore"
-okay, give me a different phone?
"Sorry...but we can only send yours out for repair"
-but its only two months old?
"yes, but its warranteed for a year!"
-I just agreed to a three year contract and you want to take away the free incentive?
"yes sir"

-well that is BS and I don't like it! what do I do in the meantime?...with no phone?
"we can provide you with a loaner...do you have a Credit card?"
-wha?! I have to pay for a loaner?!!
"well if you still have your old phone, we could switch the service back over to it"
-so, I agreed to a three year contract, just to get a new phone, and now you can put me back on my old phone
...but still charge me with the new contract? isn't that nice.

"sir, would you like me to reactivate your old phone? there will be a $35 charge, but I could just put it on your next bill so you don't have to pay for it now"
-you have got to be kidding me
"and I can send out your new phone for repair whenever you are ready..."
-how long will it take for the repair?
"I can't answer that...could be months" (didn't actually say that, but it felt that way)

"and the shipping charges to send it out for repair, I could also put onto your Bill so you don't have to pay it now"

....it was shortly after that I was arrested for beating the Salesclerk to death with my new LG phone.

.....
follow-up...took the phone back home, beat it against the computer desk a few times and the screen came back on.
Now I just hit it whenever the screen goes out...usually works...I'm sure it won't last forever...but in the meantime, I can still say "Look at my new LG phone!"

Dave, Sounds like you got a loose connection somewhere. If you dare, you could crack the cover on that puppy and do some push/pull/tugging till you find a wire or a spot on the circuit board that makes the screen come on/go blank.

okay...so my LG phone finally gave up completely...
or at least the Touch screen did.

And my Phone company refuses to give me another phone.
(22 year customer and they don't give a crap!)

Unfortunately I still have 2.5 years on my contract (lol)
so I am stuck with them for now.

Phone has been sent out for repair...hopefully it will work again.
..............................................

In the meantime, I have gone back to my wonderful (old) Kodak Z740 SLR style Digital camera that also shoots low quality video.
(My Olympus DSLR doesn't shoot video...too bad)

With a Tripod and Windows Movie Maker...

I present the newest additon to the AirDave's Card creations YouTube channel!
A quick build of the SPV Koolwheelz model!

I have a spare phone I purchased from Walmart. Depending on the style SIM card, you can usually just buy a really nice $60 or REALLY NICE $100 dollar phone, take out the SIMS card that came with it, and just POP yours in. AR&T uses the "Go-Phone". It's not too hard to match them up. That's what I bought when my $489 dollart LG was put through the washer and dryer, ironically, that phone still works but I like the cheapo Walmart one better. It has a higher Megapixel Camera too.

I just got this JVC Picsio HD Camera that shoots 1080P/720P in Stereo, and shoots a 5 megapixel picture and is rated safe to be submerged underwater up to 10 feet by the manufacturer!. It was $79.95 at Tigrdirect.com

For some reason, the only JVC Picsio available in Canada (at Tigerdirect) is the Waterproof model...and it is $239 (http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=6738386)

I would love one of those $79 models...but I guess its only for US customers.

hehe 9 days to go on that auction...I'm sure the price will climb!

only issue I have at the moment is the mail strike here in Canada.
pain in the ass...force 'em back to work I say!

oh sorry...this isn't a "comment on Canada Post" forum?

Nice phone Dave. But with all of those features, I just have to ask, does it allow you to make phone calls too?

I really enjoyed the build video to. You make it all look so simple.

wow...I actually forgot all about this thread!
so before i say anything, I'll follow up on a couple of the topics here...

I started this thread over three years ago?
when I got a new "smartphone"
(which appeared to shoot acceptable video).

Well, that phone lasted six weeks before it broke down...turned into a perpetual
problem piece of hardware and finally the touch screen gave up completely at about 18 months.
And that, once again, left me without a working phone even though I am still paying a bill.
Bell telephone refused to help me numerous times through all this
even though I have been a solid (mobilie) customer with them for 23 years.
I am no longer with them, having run out my contract (eventually!).
...
Last year I bought (on eBay) a factory refurbished Samsung HD Sports Cam.
For only $49.
Tiny little thing, about the size and shape of a smartphone, that shoots 720/1080p HD video and high quality stills (5mb plus).
It became my regular use camera...replaced my phone for that.
And I used it to shoot the videos at last year's IPMC event.
Its shock proof and waterproof.
It loads up ready to shoot in under 2 seconds!
I recommend it to anyone who doesn't want to spend a lot on something like a GoPro.
...
As I said, I am no longer with bell....just switched to Rogers (here in southern Ontario)
...got a new phone plan, with unlimited text and local calling (for the same money as what I had with Bell!)
...and scored a Samsung Galaxy phone.
Love the phone...hopefully it will hold out longer than the last "smartphone".
It has nice Camera and Video capabilities, but I will continue to use my HD Sports Cam for that.

So...all is good...at the moment.
....
So now...that brings me to my recent video efforts:
Dave's Card Creations Video Blog

Okay, so I am no Ridley Scott (hes a real Director)
...and I don't narrate like Morgan Freeman (he has a nice voice).

And...I'm no Actor...like PeeWee Herman

But, I decided to give a try at doing a VideoBlog...
and maybe I can do a regular one when there are new topics to report on.
And with practice, maybe I can improve the quality of the productions.
Or wear a paperbag.

For now, please check out the first edition!

One of the things I would like to do with these videos is show some of the tips and techniques
that you are interested in. I'm no expert on all things paper, but I can definitely show some
build tips with regards to my own models or maybe help with one of your builds.
If you've got an idea for video content, or have something you would like to see,
just drop me a line (email), or post it on the forum.

Well, I guess the "videoblog" is not of much interest to anyone...
only 26 views in over three weeks (lol)

and no feedback/input regarding content for future videos

so, probably not much reason to do another.

It was definitely a lot more work than a simple video.
With the basic programs I am using and my limited video editing skills,
I ended up spending way too much time on it anyway.)

Unfortunate on all accounts.
Don't know how I missed this. Maybe more promotion? Though I don't know how that would happen.

The IPMS video alone is stupendous, as well as the other ones. The updates on the Centurion are mighty fine.

Beautiful builds and it looks like a lot of exhibitors!

However, It does look like a huge time investment (even if it was getting more play/comments). Shooting, the loading to the computer, editing, special transitions, etc., etc. must be a tremendous load.

Hope you at least keep the ones you have up there.

Maybe this threadt will light a fire...

Joe

...Maybe more promotion?

LOL yeah...like I don't do enough self promotion, is that what you are saying?

thanks, I needed that laff.

videos that are already posted will not go anywhere.

I just thought about responding to a number of requests for more video stuff.
so, I tried to step it up with the "videoblog" approach.

...and then nobody showed up to watch!
rofl
it figures.

Funny, Dave. But the one thing I learned when I had my own studio was you couldn't get your name or logo out in front of people too much.

Yeah Joe, I agree...

just look at annoying commercials and jingles and such.
they drill themselves into your brain, don't they.

have I not drilled enough yet?
lol

amoebaboy...very random...John Barry fan here too...but,
what does it have to do with cats and spongecake?
