I'm sure some of you have seen it before, but check it out:

Google map views of quite a lot of scrapped(?) aircraft, at Davis-Monthan AFB.

That's AMARC: Aircraft Maintenance And Regeneration Center. It's where the U.S Military stores it's extra aircraft, and retired aircraft. Any class of aircraft that get's retired, ends up here.

If you wander around, there are lots of places with aircraft piled up, in various states of disrepair. And, Pima Air and Space Museum is somewhere around, too.

And if you get the urge to visit, make sure you do it during the week. AMARC is closed on weekends (Which is why I've never managed to take the tour <sigh>)

Same here. Plus with the cost of gas nowadays, trips down south aren't happenning anymore.

Haven't been on the tour, just driven by. Been to the Pima museum several times, its maybe 5 miles away. Was thnking about heading there over the Memorial weeked, but since we got the good weather in here stayed around home. Plus the cost of gas made me think about it since I have a big trip planned in late June to Nor Cal, need to save the dollars for that. I used to do a day trip there for about 35 dollars, admission and everything; now that would barely cover the gas.

Maybe all of the AZ (and nearby) based modelers should plot out a trip for a post Monsoon get-together at Pima.
Everybody bring a model of something at the museum and we can try to weasel a reduced admission<G>

Guido built this diorama as an inspiration:

Now I would like to see someone do the same thing but with B-52s.

Kind of sad -- a Beaver Boneyard.

The disassembled B-52's actually take up more space than the flyable (sorta, maybe) ones. They are hacked into large chunks and then laid out for or the satellites to see. I don't know how long they have to keep them laid out before they are allowed to start melting things down.

I want to say a month or so, but don't quote me. It's been a couple of years since I've read anything about that.

According to the Wikipedia article on START it's supposed to be 3 months, but there are still some out there I believe.
