Haven't had much time for building since my son was born last October, but thought this would be a good re-introduction. I'll enter with Prudenzio's Vought F4U-4 Corsair in the Marines Training Squadron LF11 livery. The page is printed out at stock size (looks close to 1/72 but couldn't get an accurate wingspan measurement on the page due to the gull wings) and has the first coat of a matte clear spray drying on it now. So for eye candy, here's a photo of the bird in question:

There we go, I'm committed now to a build (it's official once its posted lol). Hopefully I'll have the time to get thru a one-pager and build confidence again to dig back into the B-17 (and do it justice).

i think they are about scale 1:60 well that is what the FW190 seems to be seems a bit smaller than the 1:50 MArek one i done and bigger than a 1;72 plastic one before

It seems the scales are not consistent. There's someone who posted a P-51 build that was smaller than 1:72. Well we'll find out once its built I guess lol.

I think that the old Corsair that I built was pretty close to 1/72. I don't have it anymore as the museum gift shop closed down and it was not returned.

Yea, I had printed out the wrong one so I slapped the upper left half of the wing together and measured it, doubled it, and added the center piece and got 18.2cm which comes out to 1:68.7 scale. Close enough for me to display the bird in with my 1:72 collection.

Onward (and upward)!

We have to have at least one F4U in the contest so that one of the old timers can at some point say that it looks like a Corsair.

The training squadron markings look really good.

Looking forward to hearing about your experience in building this one.

Don

Off to a slow start, but a start nonetheless.

Page printed and spray sealed:

Fuselage formed. I'm trying this model with the intended build style - mating tabs on the joints. Its a little different than traditional one-sided tabs or joining strips, but it did result in a perfectly straight fuselage without even the slightest indication of it wanting to twist or banana. It'll be interesting trying the same style on wings, but we'll see how it goes.

Don't worry there is going to be a second corsair in the contest. I got one printed out ready to go. so what you sealing them with I just use some cheap hairspray. I don't need hairspray for anything else ;)

I use Krylon Matte UV-Resistant Clear spray - full discussion here: http://www.papermodelers.com/forum/tips-tricks/6058-spray-sealing-finished-models.html#post111745

Ok so I've been delayed in updating the thread here, but I have been making slow progress. Here are some updates:

First the wing construction. I've decided to build this plane stock, with all the face-to-face tabs. For the wing, it actually does a nice job generating the proper compound shape:

The bottom of the wing had the opposing tabs, but the top is just single overlapping tabs. The resulting shape is a little exaggerated on the dihedral of the outer wing sections, but goes together nicely and matches the feel of the model:

Next I assembled the wings to the fuselage, and the forward engine cowl and tailplane. Looking like a Corsair now! ;)

And now to today's bits - the landing gear all around:

Very nice looking wing. These little models might not satisfy the rivet counters, but they really do capture the essence of the subject models.

Agreed. Definitely a fun little model. And here she is, completed and ready for judgment. ;)

That was a fun reintroduction into the hobby. Now maybe onto something a little more detailed to work towards getting back to the B17...

Beautiful! The canopy is nicely rounded. On many models it is too angular, but you and Zio have pulled it off!

Great looking build...

My only observation, and correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the arresting hook upside down?

Opalmox you have eyes of a hawk, it can shoot down planes without anti-aircraft battery
