Has anyone designed an old west wooden fort? I've been looking but no luck. I can't even find blueprints/diagrams showing the layout.

One place to start might be the following bibliography:

Check the downloads here for a block house.

I thought there used to be a fort here, but I don't see it now. The one I'm thinking of had earth berms with ramparts and towers above. There are some accessories that might fit.

If no direct solutions available, you would re-watch some more classical movies again and just snapshot some convenient views there...

The German Disney website has a fort which looks pretty good:

Thanks for the info guys. I really like the Vulture Gulch set. I may have to invest in it. I was looking for something that had the catwalks and some interior buildings. I can create a small layout in white to figure out what I need, enlarge it to full size and do log texture artwork in Photoshop to print out the finals. I've been looking at the old Johnny West Circle X Ranch from the late 1960s early 1970s. I'm thinking about building the Fort, a ranch, and maybe some western town buildings in Johnny West size. Figures are around 11" tall. A friend recently gave me one of the old Sam Cobra villain figures, that I'm trying to restore and find accessories for.

I tried to get the buckboard wagon at an auction a few years back ... it went for over $100. Restoring the Johnny West figures is more difficult than old GI Joe's. The way the joints were done makes them fragile with age. I've still got Johnny, Josie, Chief Cherokee, Thunderbolt and Flame, stored in a cool dry location so the soft plastic doesn't get nastier than it already is

I found out about 10 years ago that Sam Cobra was originally James West from the Wild Wild West. Marx couldn't get the rights to produce West so they took the head off and added the new Sam Cobra head. If you do research, all of Sam Cobra accessories are from the Wild Wild West. I just found out this week that the left sleeve has a cutout for the stiletto knife. The original design even had the removable boot heels containing the breakaway derringer. The derringer did come with Sam Cobra but the boot heels are not removable. I'm planning on making the James West version, if I can locate all of the accessories and a Captain Maddox head. Captain Maddox of the Cavalry uses the original James West head. You can search for James West/Johnny West and find several versions that other people have made.

Are your buildings going to be diorama-like or are you going to be building something for the kids? Either way, the Fort at Page 42 mentioned above could easily be converted to the larger size. There is also a town and ranch. I got some of the miscellaneous pieces from there and rescaled and re-textured to use on my HO railroad. For the height required for 11 inch figures, cardboard with bracing or frame should work well. Also check out YPS Fanpage ... YPS Fanpage: Sonstiges: Bastelbögen (http://www.ypsfanpage.de/sonst/bastel.php?bogen=282)

Thanks for the link. I've downloaded both the town, and the Fort from the Disney site. I'm thinking about using black foamcore, and making the front or rear wall removable so that it could be used as an adult playset for displaying the Johnny West figures. I am thinking about more of a diorama like design. But I may make textures in Photoshop and print out the textures and glue them on instead of painting everything from scratch.

I wish my son would have been into Johnny West as much as I was as a kid, but we did make a lot of stuff for his GI Joe's.

Have a lot of fun with this.

I just downloaded Oliver's Chuck Wagon from his website. I think it would work and it could easily be converted to the buckboard, and the covered wagon, maybe the cavalry wagon. Now if I can find the Stagecoach in a detailed paper kit. I think Silver Oxide is still working on one. I'd also like to see a circus wagon or maybe the drummer's wagon, like the one Artemus Gordon used all the time on the Wild Wild West. I'm researching Johnny West to see if I can find a body for an Artemus and sculpt a head for him. I'm already working on a redesign of Jamie West into Dr. Megelito Loveless. Shorten the arms, legs, body and sculpt a head. Its a dream but I do work on custom toys now that I've gotten laid off again. Twice in a ten year period. Maybe I can just build custom displays, toys, and playsets and just retire. Thanks again guys for the info.

Wrong theme, wrong medium, right scale. Talk about inspiration, though...
