Hi! :) It's me again with one of my many pesky questions, but this is really picking on me(excuse my english please ;) )...Scratch building.
I would really like to try this type of modeling, but first I would ask all other professionals out there how to do it.

Thanks for the help! :)

The first thing you are going to need is a good set of plans / reference material of what it is you are planning to build.

Thanks for the reply Tim! Do you happen to know a site where I could find blueprints?

Thanks again!;)

Here are some nice drawings off various planes:

plan 3-vues (http://richard.ferriere.free.fr/3vues/3vues.html)

There's also a russian site which has some very good drawings of aircrafts, but I don't know if I should post the link here because it's in kyrillic and I got problems on another forum because of that reason.

I think you should specify a bit more what you mean with "scratchbuilding"- do you want to design a model so that you can print and build it, or is a single model your goal, without every part totaly drawn out?

I'm thinking about building aircraft, preferably helicopters and jet fighters. I also prefer having the cross sections of the aircraft too.

Thanks for the replies guys! :)

thank you very much everyone! I might give scratch building a try, but I need still a bit more experience with modelling!

Thanks again! :)

Just as I mentioned in a similar thread, I would reccomend starting out with a simple kit and scratchbuilding your own extra details to add to it, see what you come up with...

here's an example, this is what I did with Claudio Dias's wonderful Mad Max Interceptor:

original kit

101838101834

And my finished version with extra bits added... I also added a lot of detail to the interior but can't find pics of that right now

101835101836101837

At the time I built this I never would have contemplated a scratch build, but after giving this treatment to every model I've built since, I would gladly make an attempt now, starting with either drawings, plans or just a hell of a lot of photo's for reference.

Good luck and don't be afraid to try new things.

Kris4015,

Here are two build threads of scratchbuilt models that I did. I know that they are not really what you are looking to build, but they might give you some inspiration

Thunder Fighter: http://www.papermodelers.com/forum/alternate-dimensions/6104-scratch-built-thunder-fighter.html
and

I hope that these will help you out.

Good luck with your project.
