Do you get to see Ice Pilots Peter?
If not, search it out online.
I think its in its second or third season now.

Its all about Buffalo Airways....based in Northwest Territories, Canada
Has a few planes...at least one DC3
Shes so pretty to watch.
60 plus years old and still a vital part of their operation.

I live in Cape Town, our local airbase, AFS Ysterplaat still flies the C-47 as the re-engined C-47TP (turboprop) for maritime reconnaissance.

Ice pilots it's an excellent series for aircraft fans, especially fans of the classics such as the DC 3, DC 6, etc.

When I lived in Florida, Lee County uses DC-3's for mosquito control. There were eight flying and three for spare parts.

Air Atlantique in Coventry, England operates some DC3 for freight, airshows, movies etc. This summer I visited a few air museums in the North of England. At one (I forget which one now) was an ex Air Atlantique DC3. One of the staff there told me it was donated by Air Atlantique after new safety regulations meant it could no longer be used for passenger flights.

Apparently these new idiotic rules meant that in order to carry passengers, their fleet of DC3 had to be fitted with those inflatable emergency slides for passenger evacuation, even though the drop from the door to the floor is all of about 3 ft, and in addition to that, they had to be fitted with emergency drop down oxygen masks, even though the aircraft never flew anywhere close to the altitudes that would require oxygen.

So yet another piece of history is grounded due to ludicrous nanny state rules with no hint of logic or common sense.

They should have wings that fold down and serve as tables.

Ok now I see it-yes that looks like a DC-3 fuselage mounted on a bus chassis.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry.
Its a sad way for the old bird to go out, isn't it.
But then again, maybe its better than the scrap heap?

I guess I'd rather see it out there like that than melted down and made into soda cans.
