Barry was one of my first members when Rick and I had started Cardmodels.net. He was always a friend, very supportive and brilliant in his very own special 'Barry' way. I'm going to miss him (as are we all). See you in the Summerlands Barry where the weather is warm and the sea is never rough and the sun is always shining.

This is indeed a terrible loss to the card modeling community and to anyone who had the pleasure of knowing him, not to mention his family and loved ones, to whom I offer my deepest condolences.

Barry designed my HMAS Vendetta, without ever asking for anything in return, sadly the person I built the model for passed away a couple of weeks before barry, so for me this just adds to the sadness, I really can't believe this.

I am stunned...what a tremendous shock..."bazzer" will be so very sorely missed, a brilliant designer, so humble and unassuming yet a pillar to the paper modeling community, he always brought a smile to my face when I read his posts and design/build threads...I had no clue he was ill though he did have difficulties with the change of weather and the cold, yet no inkling of any serious difficulties...I am just aback with this news....

Wotcher, bazzer, you've enriched my life with your wit, creativity and friendship...amazing how one can become such friends over the expanse of ocean and yet never actually meet...we are so blessed to have known you and to have enjoyed so many moments in this forum together, not to mention the superb legacy of your many and varied ship model designs...may you rest in peace, dear friend, and enjoy fair winds and following seas, Mate!

My sincerest and heart felt condolences to his family, whom he spoke of often...may God grant them the strength to deal with the grief of his passing and bless them with peace and serenity to enjoy what I know are many fond memories of his life.

Barry was one of the first real personalities I encountered when joining the paper model building community. Will always remember his own description of himself cutting away on a model posed on a tray in the sofa in front of the TV.

And of course the fact that he commented kindly on what I was doing more often than I did for him. Thank you, Barry, and I'll try a bit harder to do for others what you did for me.

Respectfully, Leif

I remember when I joined the community Barry was searching a better and bigger roller-mouse to be able to design new models because he had difficulties with his hands and I thought there's some attitude I can learn from. And them new models kept on coming right until the end.
I remember his kind and sharp comments and pretty soon noticed it was a compliment in it's own when Barry entered a thread and posted his notions. A big loss and I wil miss him alot.

It's not easy is it.
Knew Barry had been unwell and went to check if he had resumed accessing the forum.
Wasn't sure whether to say anthing or what to say. Others have put their feelings so much better than I could.

I had been corresponding with Barry about the International Paper Modelers' 2012 convention theme of merchant ships and civil watercraft. He said it was unlikely that he could get to the States for the event, but he was planning to send a model. I intended to try to build his Sealand Express container ship and had sent him some questions a few days ago. I thought it was unusual that I did not get a response right away, and then I saw the awful news.

Barry was one of my first friends in the Forum. I am of an age when my friends are beginning to pass from the scene, and Barry is a great loss that has truly saddened me.

John, Jim, Don, you have all worked with Barry in some way, my own small collaboration was to work on some ideas for his Albatross, but by way of myself having a chance to learn his Mesa program..not only a free program, but didn't have the time to learn it! Barry tried to help me patiently, and sent lots of cool things over to help.(to no avail)..his encouragment in my own projects has been invaluable. It is funny with communication systems as they are that such people as Barry can have an amazing influence...If some others have experience with Barry to share I'd be interested to listen(read)

Of course now I wish I'd done more collaboration, he was great to work with.

I have to say when ever I saw an update in some project he was working on I was there to see what new post was added. In fact the funny thing is when you saw a new post by Barry as well as some designers your in fact hoping you can suggest something and he was happy when someone did post some suggestion that he could use on them designs to make them Better.

I thought the forum would like to read a message I received from Barry's family in response to my brief email conveying our sincerest condolences for the family's loss in which I also mentioned how very highly the group thought of our friend Barry and how much we all miss him:

Hi,
Thank you for your kind words they do mean a lot to all of his family. My dad will be missed so very much and it is very heart warming to receive such a lovely email as I know how much he enjoyed the chats and information he acquired from being on the papermodelers.com forum. We are all together to stay strong for each other.
Kind regards
Silvie Gilder (Barry's daughter)

Bazzer, we all miss you so very much but have wonderful memories of you on this and other forums, as well as correspondence and chats, which we have and will continue to share and cherish together on this forum keeping your memory alive....
