Here is a USN US Army ram, the USS Vindicator. It was 220 feet long and could do 20 miles an hour. She had 1 100 pounder rifle but smaller guns were added. The model will be in 1/250 scale and in waterline.

This looks great. At this rate utilizing mortar boats and tinclads, we will us a real MS River fleet. Still gonna need some Pook Turtles.

I started research on those, so far vague. Do you have the names of the ships that fall into that club?

I gathered the Pook Turtles were the City Class ironclads:
City class ironclad - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/City_class_ironclad)

According to the article, the seven gunboats in the class were named for cities on the Mississippi or its tributaries. They were: USS CAIRO, USS CARONDELET, USS CINCINNATI, USS LOUISVILLE, USS MOUND CITY, USS PITTSBURG AND USS ST. LOUIS (later remanded USS BARON DE KALB).

Hope this helps...Corey, you've made quite a superb fleet of vessels, and I always look forward to seeing your new projects.

Cheers!

Thanks jim.
I have the blue prints to the USS Cairo but I was holding off a bit. I am unsure how far along Avery is on this project. At one time he was working on the Cairo.

Rigging out the Vindicator. As far as I know this ship had no iron armor. I painted the hull in a coal tar gray, not sure what color this thing was originally.

Still working on making parts. I am kind of scattered between six projects right now.

Hi, Corey:

Found these photos, which you probably already have. Thought the cross beams between the smoke stacks was rather interesting in the middle photo.

Nothing I found comments on whether she had armor of any sort, and the photos don't suggest plating, at least from what I can tell, but who knows?

Cheers!

After some rework the parts are coming along and this will need a test build soon!

Looking good, Corey. I think likely unarmored too.

This could be your best one yet Corey. She's very intimidating and modern looking for the Civil war era.

According to the notes below the photo on this link.... USS Vindicator :: Civil War Soldier Photographs (http://teva.contentdm.oclc.org/cdm/singleitem/collection/p15138coll5/id/59/rec/27)

This vessel was not armoured at all.

I will definitely be adding this one to my pile of ships to make when it comes out. My first timberclad!

I have gotten back to this one and I am thinking of a slight redesign for easier building. I hate going back and redoing things but I think it will improve the model as a buildible thing rather then as a pile of paper! I am sorry for the many long delays!

OK, after much debate with myself, I have decided on the colors. By a couple of photos and a few good drawings it looks like the hull was charcoal/black. Not uncommon. The wood armor I am going with wood texture painted a light gray. And the upper works look like typical bright white. The decks are wood as usual. Almost done!

Working on directions now. Sorting out some good diagrams for the standing and running rigging. Not too much of either because she is not a sailing ship, but still quit a bit of rope! The details will make this model pop I think!

Here is the over view for the instruction/diagram part. I also placed the flags here so they could be printed on lighter paper.

Corey, it's always good to see another ACW warship kit of your design.

It is getting there. Slowly. A few more pages of diagrams and a quick detail adding adventure in gimp for the parts pages and I should be done!:)

Well darn! I was hoping no one would notice my error but that sharp eyed Kaz saw that the stacks are a bit thin.

Oh well. If they are that noticeable then I guess I will fatten them up a bit. If one is female and the other mail, I will merry the two and in no time they will be fat and happy!

This correction shouldn't take long.

Looking good Corey. Nice to see you're designing has gone back to superhuman levels of productivity again! Mine is at a standstill at the moment. Too may other things on the go, but will keep coming back to it!

Ps. nice to see some other people building your ships to, the more the merrier!
