thanks Rick. ive been using that one as a basis to get started. havnt settled on a scale yet but it will be at least 1/72. the shown skirt textures are not final.just threw them on to break the white monotony as i work.

Your threads have to be the most paradoxical threads in the forum. There's a title, then "Nothing" and you always have the coolest stuff! My brother wrote me a letter that came back virtually completely censored from Vietnam. When he came back he told me that he was in a marsh with some of his team and they came under heavy fire. The PAC V flew right over them to give them shelter while they climbed up the other side and were taken to safety. I had trouble understanding what he was talking about, it was 1969 and these things weren't in the news. If this comes out anything like your LCAC, you have another winner on your hands! :)

There's a Hovercraft Museum near where I live Hovercraft Museum Charity Website (http://www.hovercraft-museum.org). It's not open to the public often but I think there is an SRN6 near the fence if you want some detail shots.

thanks to my (insert expletive here) cable company i was left without complete services for the past 2.5 days. (tv,phone and internet.)

given the amount of time it takes me to design, i hesitate to commit to various incarnations of the PACV. i cant say when i get done if ill be burnt on the subject or not. i have other ideas i want to try.

so i managed to get the engine area, prop and rear cabin section completed.

been a long road of broken computer, lost data, and missing program registrations, and after a stern talking to about losing the registration codes, i think im in a position to restart. although i have to find a new paint program,(im considering gimp). i believe i will start with trying to finish this design.

I remember in the late 60's when the Navy first tested one of these things. There was a big hoopla about it. Then right there in front of all the media they took off for the water and it promptly sank. Very embarassing to say the least.

Did you use the reload 3d model option? That might cause that smattering of red lines. Shame about losing all that work, it happens to me too... Even worse is having to redo the entire 3d model because you forgot a crucial part or made a mistake.

nothing
01-25-2013, 06:53 AM
that was the first thing i did. didnt work. most of the red lines are parts that dont have joining sides.

I had a buddy that passed away a while back who was in a PACV crew during Vietnam. He said when people, even other sailors would ask him what it was, the crew just normally said it was their UFO and left it at that. He had some pretty good stories, at least those he was willing to share.

Excellent work!

I must admit that I knew very little about the U.S. Navy air cushion patrol craft and had no idea that the Army operated them. Even though they were operating in Vietnam at the same time I was there, I never saw one or heard about them since I was on the coast of the Mekong Delta and the Army ACVs were being operated in the Plain of Reeds along the Cambodian border.

I'm glad to learn about these vessels and to see your outstanding model of the Quai Vat develop.

Thank you for the comments. I hope you can overlook the somewhat dubious build skills. Although i freely admit it is not the prettiest display of building, I am extremely happy with how it is coming together.

Hope everyone had a good Christmas. I bought my Dad the Crysis game. It was a digital download, so that he would have something to open I built and wrapped paperreplika's figure.

elliott- the figure is a platic tamiya. the pacv is 1/35 so i was using it as a scale reference.

only got a little more done.
