I’ve put this in the architecture section because there is a building on the model ;-)

However, as you will see from the pictures, it’s an automaton, Like my earlier model - The Artist - this is from Cool4cats. The difference is that I managed to make this one work - so it must be an easy kit!

There is a demonstration on you tube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FLZSc0JhOnM (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FLZSc0JhOnM) . It isn’t mine. As you may note, I’ve added a few bits of my own. I copied the van and one of the trees. The van copy went inside so there is no white card inside. The odd thing I noticed is that on the back doors, there is a logo - the left hand door has “ME” over “ES” but is back to front. While the right hand door also has “ME” over “ES” but this time the right way round !

I used the copied tree to cover up the mechanism at the back that makes the chimneys move. Finally I added “caps” to the front of the shafts, to cover over the holes.

One thing I should mention is the instructions. As with “The Artist” the instructions are highly detailed - there’s an example in the Artist thread. It takes almost a page to explain one operation. This differs dramatically from, say, the instructions for St Marks - there, all you get are pages of diagrams.

I will be posting another model shortly and here the instructions are positively minimalist! Watch out for a new model……..It’s German and neither a castle nor a Cathedral!

Just caught this post, Mike. I love automata more than any other paper model. I have several that I have built. I was thinking about Cool4Cats models and can see from your build how inventive they are.

Thanks for the post and excellent build!

nice work... :)
can you post how the mechanism works? we're trying to also do a project with the same mechanism and i can't seem to get the mechanisms right... we based it from the pie factory.

As they say - one picture paints a 1,000 words - here's 2,000

Very Interesting.
Thanks for showing us how all the "Magic" happens.
By the way... I saw something similar on the TV show "How it's Made"
They had a segment on Pork Pies...(the real thing). They look delicious!
