And now, for something completely different...
It's ugly, and it has been around for 70 million years :roll eyes:
Gamera did a nice job on this Canon free model, showing that the strangest objects can be turned into a paper model

A well done model. These Canon models are great, and sometimes, when a builder goes through the trouble, they're fantastic! :)

Beautifully captures all the ugliness of that fish. Excellent and well-deserved.

Very nicely built model!

But something seems to be wrong with me, I don't find him ugly...

To see my fish where so many fantastic works have been shown, just blows me away.

I hope it doesn't scare away new members.:)

Good job!

But, is there anybody who can tell me how to correctly pronounce "Coelacanth"? My tongue just cant make it ;)

That would be something like KOE-LA-KANT or COO-LAH-CANT but my phonetic Polish is a bit rusty

Now just figure how big you can make this model, take a picture and you can fool anyone with an incredible fishing story ha ha! Seriously, it is just amazing, nice job Gamera!;)

Nicely done! I was really delighted to see this model on the front page, this model (and fish!) is way cool.

With regards to the pronunciation, it is pronounced SEE-la-canth. Don't ask me why.

I agree! It is a very well built model... congrats gamera!

And yeah, APA-168 is correct; it's pronounced "see-la-kanth"

Whichever way you pronounce it, it's still one hell of an ugly fish - but one hell of build too ! Well deserved POTW for sure :)

Yes you are right about the english pronunciation, but the in the languish I speak daily, which sounds like something in between German, farting and snoring for non speakers, of course the Dutch found a different approach ;)

Always thought that was an amazing model when I saw it on the Canon website.
Looks really good when built for real.

Nice one.

Seel-a-canth, not a word that comes up in conversation a lot. Unless your like, David Attenborough or somebody.

Cool build! Actually this ugly bugger has been around for closer to 400 million years. It just went missing for the last 70 million or so.

But, is there anybody who can tell me how to correctly pronounce "Coelacanth"? My tongue just cant make it ;)

I asked that question over 30 years ago and the answer was:

See-le-canth

Who knows for sure?
