Does any one remember back in the '40's, you could send away and get a Piper Cub suspended in a box by many threads. Outside the box was a joy stick and rudder pedals. If you moved the controls the Cub wouuld respond accordingly. I spent many happy hours pretending to be a pilot. I would love to find one of these card stock items but none have ever appeared. I think you had to send a Wheaties box top and twenty five cents somewhere and a couple weeks later you'd have your own Cub but you had to put it together. John

I have heard of the model you describe, but never seen one.
No surprise that: because I'm in New Zealand, which is just about the very last place on the planet to ever see such interesting things, and ever shall be.

I'd think the nearest one might get to the model you recall would be the Link-Trainer from Currel's site.
Were one willing to go to the extra effort, I'm certain a system of rods and bell-cranks could be devised to operate the trainer simulator controls from an external control consol.

Kind and Respectful Regards, Uyraell.

Uyraell, I'm not surprised you haven't seen one. I look on e-bay now and then but have never seen one there. I did find some literature on the subject and have attached an image. I was reminded that it cost two Wheaties box tops and 35 cents. John

Here (http://www.mwotrc.com/rr2006_06/armstrong.htm)'s another story of the kit. Apparently the kit is available somewhere, read the story.
More info here (http://www.hakes.com/item.asp?Auction=182&ItemNo=24688) too.

It would certainly be an unusual model.
Thank you all of you who took the time to find pictures of the model.
It is a pleasure to see it, even in "as it was" advertising form.

As to making a modern likeness of the model, I'd think the business-card size FG Piper Cub would be large enough to build the rest of the model around.
The major difficulty will be the intricacies of the pathways and guides for the cotton threads which control the suspended plane by way of the miniature controls in the front of the box.

Kind and Respectful Regards, Uyraell.
