Action X turret: trials report - Medium Tanks - World of Tanks official forum (http://forum.worldoftanks.eu/index.php?/topic/361665-action-x-turret-trials-report/)

Something of a might have been topic but on Dave's Cent it would make for an interesting variant.

If all of the changes to the turret are ahead of the mantel location
it would be an easy enough turret to design in paper.

But I don't think I am interested in making one
since it is basically just an idea on paper.

It had a dummy gun barrel? and was test fired upon.
But not even sure that the test turret was actually mounted on a Cent.

Too bad, because it would make an interesting "add-on".
I'd settle for one photo of one Centurion with that turret.

A centurion with an action X turret mounted.

any idea what year that was?
because there appears to be some other differences with the tank.

I'll have to look into this some more.

I spoke to the blokes at the tank museum and they 'think' it might have been a mark 7 but it is something I am researching at the national archives so if I find anything I will pass it on.

Nothing more definitive at the moment, could be a mark 7 OR a mark 9.

I think you are correct.
There is definitely some differences around the glacis plates.
And surface accessories are relocated. [minor]

1957 is the test date for this mod.

This is pretty late, and I'm sure the centurions were well into Mk.7 by that time.
Mk7 have a redesigned engine area, and then rearmored.
Many notable changes in appearance.

The 20pdr gun might be misleading to some since it is an older gun
but that photo posted shows a fume extractor on the barrel, so its
definitely a modified 20pdr, post L7 design.

I have also noticed the turret shows considerable rear design changes (as well as the forward modifications).
To consider making a paper model, I would need to see the rear (and side views) as well (sorry).
But I have a feeling this mod is well past Mk.6 models, so i doubt I would consider it as an "add-on" for the Mk.5 kit.

No worries mate, there is so much interchangability of these marks with the mark 9's being minor mods to mark 7's etc. I wish I could plot a decent graph of these and will look to see if I can get one made up.
