YuG

Congrats on POTPP (Picture On The Portal Page for those who spend hours trying to figure out unknown acronyms). It's also my favorite F-4E and one I was up close and personal with.

The particular aircraft was the 3rd Tactical Fighter Wing commander's aircraft at Clark AB, Philippines when I was stationed there. When visiting dignitaries wanted to see aircraft at Clark up close and personal, this aircraft was the E model which was always on display. The Wild Weasel G model was also shown, but the 90th TFS didn't have a dedicated aircraft for show...we took which ever we could. 8v)

The day before Gulf War I began, I was escorting the entertainer Billy Joel around base. This aircraft was one of several set up as static displays. With a pilot on one side, myself on the other side and Billy in the cockpit, we answered all his questions about the aircraft. I also had to tell Billy Joel that due to bureaucratic bumbling, we were able to give him a ride in the back seat of aircraft.

The only comment I have against the model in question, and this has nothing to do with your excellent building ability YuG, is this; I never saw that particular aircraft look that dirty. It was always washed and polished several times a week. Members of the 3rd Tactical Fighter Squadron took great pride in keeping that particular aircraft in white-glove inspection order.

Again, beautiful build of my phavorite Phantom.

Thanks all for the kind words

Ashrunner, thank you for your comment about pride of members of the 3rd Tactical Fighter Squadron. The designer of this kit must have thought the fighter planes are in anyway dirty and applied weathering. By the same token, once I applied weathering using pastel chalk to Fuso but one of Japanese IJN battle ship fan made a complaint about weathering. In addition to first class battle ship, her name ‘Fuso’ means ‘Japan’ in ancient Japanese so, according to him, she must have been washed, painted and polished frequently even during the war time.
After hearing this I removed weathering from her in view of crews pride and paying respect to them. And I can imagine your feeling on this airplane that you and members of the squadron made much of.
One more point I guess that let you down is that I forgot to install pitot tube and static discharger. Both I installed after taking this picture though as to static discharger I could not find any picture that shows this particular aircraft had it.

I have some photos of this aircraft somewhere. I'll see if I can't find them and scan them. I didn't even notice the missing pitot tube.

I believe it is the F4E Phantom from GPM. YuG's build thread here - Kartonbau.de - Alles rund um's Kartonmodell... | abgeschlossene Bauberichte | [FERTIG] Gpm F-4e Phantom 1/33 (http://www.kartonbau.de/wbb2/thread.php?threadid=13238&hilight=F4E)

Edit: Never mind, I can't find a store that provides for the F-4E
