Readying the next Tutor kit for release...
this time its the CL-41G variant built for the Royal Mayasian Air Force.

http://i1125.photobucket.com/albums/l588/cutandfold/New%20Model%20%20Releases/Tebuan%20final%202.jpg

This "ground attack" variant has:
- an improved Jet Engine (not visible in the paper model, lol)
- modified Landing Gear (the kit has wider Tires for soft ground operations)
- additional mounting points for underwing and fuselage armaments

I've included, in the kit, iron and fuel bombs.

Should be ready to go next week...first week of the New Year....happy New Year!

Before anyone asks...

next Tutor will most likely be a standard RCAF version.
Bare metal finish.

https://sites.google.com/site/canadair50yearhistory/tutorlge.jpg

And after that, a Red Knights scheme.

And then, I'll take a good look at the X version - the CL-41R.
If i can figure out how to add the nose extension...

A wonderful job on the 41G. I'm looking forward to seeing the bare metal one and the others. For the 41R, besides the saddle bags, it looks like a revised section ahead of the cockpit to accommodate the rear-folding nose wheel and then the conical nose will work great to your kit. A very unique addition to the lineup.

Red always looks great on the model shelf, tho' still looking for a yellow Tutor somewhere out there - maybe will have to do a special fantasy repaint to look like an Avro Tutor .

Keep up the great work.

Regards,
John

Well, I just started work on the next Tutor model...a Canadian Air Force version...
and yes, I still have to release the Tebuan (Malaysian AF) version!

I've also got a Mustang kit (Mustang Sally) ready to go.

I finally settled on the exact Canuck tutor for the model.
I might do another version, since there are a few variations,
but i needed to settle on something for the next model.
The basic markings for the RCAF/CAF Tutors changed a little bit over the 20 plus years of service.
There are four main paint schemes/marking layouts...but there are a many more variations in the 1960s during early design and testing phases.

Anyway, I finally settled on paint scheme v.2...circa early 1970s.
Mainly because of the rear fuselage marking placement.
Its simple and easy...looks good...and I don't have to fight with minor inaccuracies in shape and size.
In fact, this is the aircraft I will represent (CT-114 14080):

http://i1125.photobucket.com/albums/l588/cutandfold/CT114%20Tutor/CT-114%20Tutor%20scheme%202.jpg

But, it seems I got a bit sidetracked with a Boat.
Last week I was bored one evening...nothing on TV...and I decided to start a totally different build.
Been thinking about doing one of these for some time, but putting it off because its not a small project.
Since I finished the Tebuan build...and hadn't started on the RCAF build...I had no paper builds on the go.
So, it took all my attention away from the computer, and the models I am currently designing.

http://i1125.photobucket.com/albums/l588/cutandfold/Assorted%20Card%20Model/pt%20disrupt%20build.jpg

For those of you waiting to see the Tebuan model, I promise to get it published asap.
Oh, and that Mustang too.

I have some new KoolWheelz models started too!...lol... no idea when I'll get back to those though!

Update...to keep you updated...

still working on things...including this RCAF Tutor!

Everything seems to be going well.
No major adjustments.
But it will take a while since I am doing a full assembly: cockpit, clear canopy, landing gear, speed brake details and optional fuel tanks.

I'm game for the Tutor with the RCAF trainer markings !
Probably will look good in my hangar diorama , and setting on the shelf with my other trainers !

I'm just finishing up some wing tanks and then the model will be done.

Then I will start work on the package for the store.
Probably have the kit ready for publish in a few days.
Hopefully I get a new camera before then so I can take some photos.

.........
My pal Mike (Tecumseh) scored me some plastic for vacuforming.
Two big rolls of the stuff.
Thanks Mike.

Unfortunately the thinnest of the two materials is more than .40mm.
Thats about three times the thickness of the hobby plastic sheets used in vacuforming.

http://i1125.photobucket.com/albums/l588/cutandfold/CT114%20Tutor/SAM_3341.jpg

I tried making some canopies...it heated and molded okay.
Needed a bit more heat to pull down over the molds, and I had to be careful so as not to overheat.
Any spot that received too much heat, turned opaque white!

The finished canopies looked good, but were not as smooth as previous attempts.

http://i1125.photobucket.com/albums/l588/cutandfold/CT114%20Tutor/SAM_3342.jpg

But then I found that they were stiffer and less flexible.
Which means they don't want to conform to the fuselage shape.

Also, the thickness of the plastic does not allow me to get a tight fit
between the canopy and fuselage.
I tried cutting back the plastic a little further, but the canopy frame is very narrow.
Its most obvious at the very front, where the canopy should be tight against the fuselage.

Super Dave this is a beautiful model. Very nice and I really like how you made the canopy. The way in which you made it is something I would very much enjoy learning how to do. The boards of the P.F.M. model. Very nice and your camera is really delivering a crystal clean photo. Thank you Dave for creating and sharing. Love I! wc

Just made a couple of (small) changes to my latest Tutor kit that I am working on
and decided to update all the Tutor kits with the same mods.

Small changes, you might not even be concerned.
But, if you bought any of the Tutors (Snowbirds, Tebuan, Golden Cent.)
you can go to ecardmodels and re-download the kits (through your account)
and you'll get the latest version with the mods.

I am just getting ready to publish the fourth CL-41 model, this time it is the natural metal finish RCAF Trainer.
And I have just started work on the fifth instalment...a Red Knight Tutor.

From the very first Tutor kit, I have been promising myself that I was going to adjust those side "deflectors" that fit into the jet Engine intakes.
The deflectors are slightly offset, as they should be,
but I didn't like the very thin pointed sliver of material on one side.
And the very thick section on the other side.
This goes back to the original work Nobi did for me...and I wanted to make a small design change, but never did. My fault.

But after building the new RCAF Tutor I decided to modify the shape a little bit
...you will hardly notice it. But its enough to strengthen the thin side of that part, and move the deflector down a little bit.

And as I said, I have modified the deflectors in all previous kits.

Deflectors in this photo have NOT been modified.
http://i1125.photobucket.com/albums/l588/cutandfold/New%20Model%20%20Releases/DSC_0838.jpg

...
And, while photographing this latest RCAF Tutor, I noticed how high the plane sits at the rear.

I must explain, that the original prototype model sat way too low (compared to the real plane).
The tail is supposed to sit a little higher that the cockpit.
And since I was redesigning the Landing Gear (more than once), I compensated and increased the stance of the plane.

But after photographing this latest build, from the side, I see that it sits a bit too high.
The spine of the fuselage should be closer to horizontal.
So, I have shortened the Main Landing Gear a little bit to drop it down.
Not much...about 2mm in total.

Probably not going to notice the change until you view the model directly from the side
but it should be more accurate this way.

And, as said, I have modified all the Tutor kits with the slightly shorter Landing Gear struts.

http://i1125.photobucket.com/albums/l588/cutandfold/New%20Model%20%20Releases/RCAF%20Tutor%207.jpg

These aren't big modifications...just little things that bugged me.
But I wanted to make sure everyone is aware of the changes and you can decide if you want to replace the kits in your collection.
