I bought a Halinski 1:200 Yamato but only to find out that the future build will be too big for the space that i have provided. So I re-scaled it to 1:400 so it will be more manageable. Attached are some pictures of my build. This is just my second kit (the other one was a Modelik IS2) so pardon for the sloppiness of the build.

That's a nice start Dell.

Good idea to downsize to 1/400. Sometimes it just makes a lot of sense to do this. Yamato is a monster ship anyway.

That's a pretty ambitious project for a second model. It looks like you are off to a pretty good start though. I look forward to seeing it grow. Even at 1:400 its a biggy.

Nice. Again a 1:400 build. At that scale with all the detail that this kits comes with, this will be a head turner. Looking forward to future postings.:DRick

A question, can anybody advise me on a filler or a putty I can use to fill up the nasty gaps on my model? Any specific one that does not warp the paper? I was leaning on Milliput, but your input will be appreciated. Thanx in advance.

If you want to use putty it will require much sanding and then you will need to paint the model. And it will not just fill a hole in paper.

You might think of some thing like I suggest in the Tips section when I ask about using foam to fill inside the model first. Possibly also look at my Potemkin model where I am wanting to make sure I do not have gaps later on.

Almost have the hull of the ship completed. Just have to glue all the joints and seal it with varnish. The superstructure will be next.

Oops, can't seem to attach the pictures. I'll try again in a different time.

Sorry for the lull in the construction, been gone for a while. But here are some more pics of my build. The tiny floatplane was a real beauty. I cannot even dream I can build something this small with my clumsy hands.

Nice work on Yamato Dell. Very good job on the small planes. That's a complication of reducing scale, and you've handled it well.

Keep us up to date with pictures.

Thanks!

The plane looks great.

Can I suggest before you go on with the superstructure you go along the edges of the deck and hull with some pva glue on a toothpick and gently ease the edges back together. It will improve it's looks considerably.

Glad it's you building this one at 1/400 not me.

Thanks for all your kind words and encouragements. That is why I like posting and viewing this forum. Everyone is helping each other out to make this hobby a worthwhile experience. And thanks for the suggestion Barry, sometimes I am so excited to work on the ship that I neglected those subtle flaws that you have just mentioned. Will be posting some more pics in the near future. Ciao.

I just realized I hadn't commented on this one yet. Looks great - and a surprisingly big model at 1/400 - I can see why you didn't want to build it bigger. Great job!
