Hello everybody, Ships and Boats are not really my cup of Tea but i thought i would just tell you a story about a friend of mine that unfortunately has now passed away.
Bill found himself unemployed many years ago and decided building models was something he could do to pass the time. Not having much money to spend on his new venture he decided he would build with card and any other bits and pieces he could find around his flat.
Corsair was a rich mans Steam Yacht (sorry i can't remember who it was for),Bill made it approx 33FT long and i think it was about 4FT wide, I think it was 1:12 scale, it had a car petrol engine which was used to drive dynamos which in turn powered up about 20 car batteries, Bill said it had to be heavy to sit right in the water, it also had a seat for Bill to get inside to steer it.

These are the only photo's i have which were taken in Bills flat. unfortunately he died before it was removed from the flat, but i have been informed that it was bought by someone in America and it is going to be put in a glass bottle and placed outside a Hotel or Casino, probably will be the largest "Ship in a bottle"

Thanks for reading, RIP Bill.

With lovely greetings

The Corsair was the yacht of JP Morgan which was later commissioned as the USS Natchez and finally the USS Oceanographer. There is a 1/130 scale Glencoe plastic model of it available on Ebay and internet hobby stores. I've been thinking of making a card model of it, and I hope that the plans may be available from the NY Yacht club.
