I had seen some of those models before. They were printed as part of a magazine, fairly big size. I wonder if they were printed on special (heavy) paper? Has anyone actually ever had an original copy in his hands?

Very beautiful!
... Please, what language is it written?

I presume Norwegian?

The 'Illustreret Familie-Journal' was first published in Denmark in 1877; Swedish and Norwegian editions soon followed. The journal is still very much alive. These pictures are from the Danish version.

Thank you very much something I had already translated using OCR and Translator.

Hello Diderick,
Yes, certainly, you are free to do so.
Thanks for your collaboration.

Found a very low res. scan on Papermau - but good enough for a joke. Only 5 parts, so less than half an hour. (Does anyone else know this rule of thumb: 13 parts an hour, including all preparations and studying the instructions?). My preparations included a very Danish drink: a Juledram, Christmas tot.

Hey, Diderick, I have a few and the ones that are on double sheets were printed on quite heavy paper. I also have some single sheet models that are on lighter paper, but as I don't know Danish, I can't say whether they were supposed to be glued on to heavier stock before building.

PATRICIAEUREKA,

Thanks for sharing. I find the old paper models fastenating. Last year I made a diorama for my granddaughter using several.

So they would have been inserts in the magazine? Size?
Could you send me a scan of the text on the thinner paper ones? I may be able to figure it out: Danish is closely related to German, Dutch and English.

Diderick: yes, I believe the heavier ones were all inserts, but the thinner ones are clearly torn from their companion pages, so were probably part of the magazine itself. I'll send you some scans as soon as I can make them.

Here are two scans. The first of the "Man in the Moon's Home" is on the thick paper. The second, the "Globus," on the thin paper. They both have the same dimensions, 27x37.5 mm per page. That would make the first scan 54x37.5 mm.

Tom, do you mean cm instead of mm? If mm those would be some very small pages. :)

Tom - That 'globus' looks awesome! Any chance of a .pdf?

Diderick - I wasn't aware of that Rule, and I will definitely keep it in mind! ;)

Happy Holidays, Everyone!

I toyed a bit with Tom's scans, and tried to clean the images and make the colors pop more.
The result can be seen in the following comparative images.

If Tom approves (since those are his original scans), I could upload the hi-res color-corrected files.

Damn that metric system! You're totally right, Doug. Good catch. T

Ruben: personally, I prefer the more muted colors of the original, but that's my own thing. Please feel free to upload the corrected files. One thing, if you could wait on the man on the moon's home until I get you the outside of the sheets with the building instructions. I should be able to do that tomorrow.

Ruben: here's the outside pages for the Man in the Moon's Home... now you can correct and upload the full model. Best, Tom

Hello friends.

This are the new files of the vintage model Tom Greensfelder scanned and made available a few posts above.

They have been color-corrected to bring back the colors to what I imagine could have been their original bright.

Since the texts of the Moon Palace where originally in Danish, I used an OCR software
and passed them through an on-line translator.

The translation was at times a bit dark, so I used some freedom to adapt the texts
to make them match the illustrations more properly.

Hope you like this little re-working of a beautiful vintage kit.

The other file is the color correction of the Globus model.
I didn't attempt to translate the instructions. But as they are very graphic, any modeler should not have problems with it.

Regards,

Thanks for the color corrected models. I really like the vintage models. It's like having a little souvenir of history.

I just found that I made a couple of typos mistakes on the English text of the files I shared.
They're minor, and you should be able to understand the words.
