This is my first and so far only scratch build ship. It is loosely based on the small river steamers used to make up some of the Souths early navy ships. The scale is about 1:250. The smoke is the colored cotton balls and the ship is made with mac and cheese boxes. The cannon is from MM Civil War ship models and the sailors are from Paper Ship Wright.

I like that one a lot! I'm going to have to read more on these.

well thanks, but I can only say that this model is correct in theme only, as it is not an exact copy of any particular ship. just a small light screw steamer, shallow draft, and common to the Souther waterways in 1861. But it was fun!

That is very nice. What also is the size? I like small model boats...

Thanks Guys, the finished model is about 4.25 inches long. The itty bitty brass cannon on the back is a 24 pound boat howitzer on the pivot-slide carriage. The forward gun is a large rifled gun.

Ct ertz you have made a nice boat! And you are a productive modeler! I have made a little similar boat, was hoping to make a reproducible model of it, a small lake steamer "The Ermine" which gave boat rides around the local lake around 1900
