Hi guys!
somebody can not wait to see the first pics of my new ship!:D

Okay here a little history:
I believed, that the name of the ship class is D´kyr! WRONG!!!!! the right name (i hope so) is Maymora! you can find it here:
Star Trek Starship Handbooks - Volume 5 (http://trek.escape-committee.co.uk/volume5.html)
the D´Kyr is a ship of these class!

The 3-side-views from the ship sent me my good friend "Big Skip" Andrew! These views are the orignals from John Eaves! the views of the D´kyr at Ex-astris are wrong!!!

I started with the construction from zero! the easiest part is the warpring, but the rest is the hardest way i ever had to design a Star Trek ship!
here are two screenshots of the final model and one of the stand! I´m not so happy with the stand! it show the emblem of Vulcan! Maybe someone has a better idea, but please: not a Vulcan harp:eek:

And here are the first pics of the testbuild! not finished yet! I don´t know when i release it! But i hope to christmas i will be finish!
that is the roundest model ever; many, many curves!!!
And i know, that the inner ring is more blue! don´t forget: it is just the testbuild (2nd try:o )

THX guys, but don´t forget: the model is only pretextured!!! I hope that the final texture will also looking good - and of course in HiRes!

BTW: if somebody want to do the support shuttle for the D´Kyr, feel free and make it! I don´t want it (maybe later)!

i guess, you must wait a little bit! at first i must finish my commercial model (see first pic)

(i must also add some parts for an internal structure for the big main part!)

Is the inner ring connected with some sort of pivots for it to be able to fold in like that?

I think I'm gonna go ahead and design a small model of the support ship that should be able to dock with your Maymora class. Mind sending me a sample of the texture (or just the model so far) so I can make sure they match?

Also, does anyone have a better version of the Surak class? I built the one from Domatine, but its somewhat lacking for details, and the "tail" is far too short.

D-WHALE
07-03-2009, 05:17 PM
:D You really can not wait to get this one, huh?
The main point is, the i MUST change the whole texture (color, shades and shadows)! currently i have no sample yet for the final texture!!!
Second thing is, that i have no permission from Skip to give the pictures of the original CGI-model to a third person! Sorry!

But i think, i have something else for you! I will send you an email!

Hi Phil!

There is something wrong about a beer truck parked next to a church . . .

:D:D:D

Is there any way you can create a support structure inside the warp ring next to the attachment points? For one thing, they will need reinforcement for rotation, and another thing is that when attaching the pivots it would be nice to have something solid to attach them to so I can get a secure bond without the structure collapsing under the pressure of my finger.

No problem! I did that! The ring has five components! On both pictures you can see it! the place on th main ring for the pivots you don´t need to cut out;)

Parts going right by row starting from the top left:
- Aft primary hull
- Mid primary hull bottom detail
- The four swept triangles fold in half as the "winglets" that go on the front of the annular warp nacelle
- Inner annular warp nacelle
- More mid primary hull bottom detail
- More mid primary hull bottom detail
- Mid primary hull
- Bow primary hull (four pieces around it are bottom detail for it)
- Outer annular warp nacelle aft
- Outer annular warp nacelle fore (above it are bridge deck details)
- Mid secondary hull (spoon shape)
- Bow secondary hull
- Top hull connector (large ^ shape)
- Bottom hull connector (small ^ shape)
- Finally, aft secondary hull

Yeah, it does look too orange, but that was the printer and setting I used. The first (and completely impossible to build) version came out very dark from my other printer. You can see that I stayed pretty true to the original colors in Drexler's illustrations.

All in all, it was a pretty quick build. Anyone interested, feel free to try building it, let me know if you need help.

Now we just need that Maymora so I can resize it to fit!

Paragon

Any ideas as to how we can actually make the DSRV dock with the Maymora?

D-WHALE
07-05-2009, 03:43 PM
 No, not really! that was also a reason wha i didn´t design it!
I have approx 90% finish of the testbuild! After that i testbuild your shuttle and will see how it fit together! I the meanwhile you can send me the HiRes plan to my e-mail adress!
have you a scale for it? i guess not, or?

Paragon
07-05-2009, 04:07 PM
No, no scale, I figured it would be best to scale it to fit the Maymora, then scale the Maymora to a standard scale.

The image above should be fine for the Maymora, since you'll have to scale it down. It should end up looking the same using either version.

I will be posting a larger scale version of the DSRV at high res on my website though.

What about rare-earth magnets to dock the DSRV?

Paragon
07-06-2009, 11:06 AM
The DSRV is probably only going to be two inches long at most. I don't think there's enough room for any magnets.

Millenniumfalsehood
07-06-2009, 12:30 PM
I've seen neodymium magnets which were 3mm x 2mm for sale at Wonderfest at Starship Modeler's table. I think they would work for this little ship.

D-WHALE
07-06-2009, 12:31 PM
Hi guys!
I think there is not enough place for a magnet in the D´kyr! On the first picture you can see, where the shuttle docked! the part is to small (red marked; approx 4 mm thick) and not straight (many curves)!
on the second picture you can see also a red marked part! That part is absolutly straight! Maybe i can add a small part so, that you can push in the shuttle!

Paragon
07-06-2009, 01:07 PM
Thats what I was going to suggest, a third prong beneath the other two, that the DSRV could fit snugly into. It might require a hole in the hull at the bases of the prongs too, for the tip of the DSRV to fit into.

So how soon will you have that model ready? I just got paper and ink and I'm ready to build!

D-WHALE
07-06-2009, 01:27 PM
Hi James!
I don´t really know that! First i must finish the church! Money rules;) and i must recoloring 13 A4 pages! So i hope, i can release it (perhaps with another model) to Christmas!
But I have an idea for in the meanwhile! There was a request about a simple Factory station for the Starfleet ships, because they currently not exist! My McKinley station is designed, only the pivots for the arms not yet! maybe you can do 2 or 3 different station for the people? What do think about that?

Millenniumfalsehood

Why not just magnets in the nose with metal contacts in the docking clamps?

Alternatively, you *could* make a slit in the docking clamps, then cut triangles out of the DSRV which slip into them.

D-WHALE
07-06-2009, 02:20 PM
That sounds very complicated! where and how should i do this??? Can you make a drawing?

Just felt like mentioning, according to Ex Astris Scientia, the support ship is actually far larger than I expected, 180m long, meaning the model I've designed is actually only slightly larger than 1:1700 already, not the 2 times larger I thought it was. Apparently the Maymora is also 600 meters long. Is that the same size you're basing your model on?

Thats a simple thing;) I use Corel Photopaint for texturing! In this program are two cool effects: Shadowing and "Plastic"! Both works with light and shadows, but it needs a lot of time to bring the light in the right direction! On the first two pics you can see the different if you don´t use the shadow effect!
on the next two pics you can see the plastic effect!
and on the last pic you can see an aging effect ("stone" and "elephant skin")! I did these effects on sidewinders Romulan ENT-BoP!

thanks! If on one page are approx. 15 parts it needs 300 to 500 layers (or more) for each page to look so! If you combine some texture lines then there only 30 to 50 layers! And it cost a lot of time ;)

To the end of this year some bad news for this project! on sunday, the 20th December i saw some new drex files of a battle damaged version of the D´Kyr with new details for the Warpring:

Shi’Kahr, We Have a Problem. (http://drexfiles.wordpress.com/2009/12/20/shikahr-we-have-a-problem/)

so i changed the parts for the inside of this ring and built him again! a 4th time!!!!!!! it´s only a small thing which i added!
after the build i saw, that i drew too few blue plasma exhausts! I drew 7, but there are minimum 14 exhaust per quarter ring:(:(:( but i have no more patience to change that an build this stupid ring a 5th time!
I guess it looks good enough!

here are the old ring and the new one! I hope you can see the different!?

I can sympathize with the build issues. The ttrial and error building of the Chaffee Shuttle that Sidewinder recently test built for me consumed an entire pack of card stock and two sets of ink cartridges.

HAHA grey blob:D
A member from Kartonbau.de said, that the position of the DSRV on the D´kyr is a little bit indecently! If you think about this, think twice, because it is the "nose" of the ship ;)

Okay here the new pics! I finished the upper and lower side for the front middle part (including the bridge), the "shoulders" with the tail end for the DSRV and the last ring part! these ring part has a whole to put in the DSRV nose!
I began also to make the stand! I guess the theme is well known!

enjoy the next following pics!

At the moment i have problems with the lower side! I can not fix the part on the middle section! DAMN!!! I try an other way!

In the meantime i built the stand together! Not a big thing like the Vor´cha stand, because the ship is relevantly!
Also I fit the DSRV holder on the ship! I want to build the DSRV again, because i was not so happy with the result! it is also a little to big and the print out color was not right!

BTW @ paragon:
if i see the Drexfiles of the D´Kyr i can´t see any red impulse engine (or is that also the Warp engine)! Do you know, why it is so? Or did you use some stuff from John Eaves?

Hi guys!
Bad news and good news!
Bad news first: i failed with the second attempt to fit the parts on the lower side!
Good news: i found a third way and finished the lower side :D

I added another frame for the front section and began with the middle parts! these i glued on the ship from front to back and added the rest from back to front! (maybe it is visible on the pics!?)

the middle part was a little too long and i cutted the rest off!

D-WHALE
01-19-2010, 09:59 PM
