Just started on this build. I found it free online a while ago. I think it was a Japanese site. I took the original files and darkened the colors and added some texture to them. Added shadowing too. And I'm using the Millenium Falcon base to hold the model. I added some Alex Ross artwork to it.

Very cool. It looks a little bigger, too. Any chance of sharing your recolor?

If it's OK with the moderators. I'm not the original artist. Plus my version is a little pixelated. Let me finish the model first, to see how it comes out.

As I remember it, the original isn't too spectacular, but it is the ONLY Godphoenix out there. I would love to have a great big Phoenix with seperating vehicles for Tiny, Princess, Keyops, Mark and Jason. Maybe a Fiery Phoenix overlay made out of overhead transparenciy film?????

There is a commercial kit out there as well for around $5.00. Google is your friend. :-)

I have seen the commercial one on Ebay, but am unimpressed. The Phoenix should be an easy enough ship to build. I think that I will build one out of wood. I have a few DVDs for reference material and the tiny one that comes with the action figures. A ginormous Space Terrapin would be too cool, as would be a 1:1 birdarang.

How about this for reference?

Please refrain from asking for repaints etc of models in the open forums. Unless you have permission from the original designer, distributing the repaint is essentially pirating the designers work.

OK, got a chance to work on this a little more tonight. Here is trimming out the top part, bottom and adding the sides. You can really see on the second image how I darkened the bottom.

And now glueing the two halves together. It's starting to take shape! Not the best kit in the world, but hey it's free!

One thing I would like to add is a plastic canopy bubble on top. Right now it's just paper. Any suggestions where I can find something like that?

The easy ten-step process for making clear-plastic domes.

1) Print off a copy of the part you want clear and build it up.

2) Fill it with plaster and let it cure.

3) Rip off the original part and then putty and sand it until it resembles the correct contour.

4) Heat a sheet of clear plastic until it sags (these can be found in any hanging packaging material in quantities sufficient for two or three canopies).

5) Get someone to hold a blow-dryer over the molten plastic on high heat to keep it molten (this requires a delicate touch to avoid scorching the plastic).

6) Jam the plastic over the dome.

7) Poke and prod it in place whilst someone continues heating it until it's conformed to the surface, then let it cool.

8) Sand the part smooth on both sides with progressively finer grades of sandpaper to get rid of imperfections.

9) Use a polishing compound (Tamiya makes some good stuff for modeling) to get it as smooth as possible.

10) Dip it in a product called Future floor wax to create a glassy surface.

You now have a perfectly formed canopy which can have pieces of the original paper version glued to it to create the frame.

To glue the paper frame to the surface, simply brush some Future to the mating surface and hold it in place to the canopy. The new Future will melt the old Future while simultaneously flowing into the frame piece, resulting in a chemically bonded part which is nigh-impossible to rip free.

Use more Future to glue it to the paper model

Pretty handy technique, huh?

Pman68,

Great build so far :D

I have the comercial kit mentioned earlier. It's a nice kit and come with a stand. Wanna see it?

Check your local craft stores for googly eyes; you'll probably find one about the right size you can cut up for the dome.

This is what I was thinking too. Will do.

The earlier post about a custom canopy is too complicated for me.

Since I'm at work right now, I decided to take a pic of my desk. You can see some of the models from my signature.

So far, Walle has been the hardest.

Pman68,

Those builds look great :D

Here's the cover of the book to show how the model turns out. I've yet to complete the one I started (not sure where it is ATM either :P ).

It's the bset Phoenix kit out there avaliable and is pretty cheap to. Note the intakes have individual fins ;) I'm thinking of designing the sub vechiles for this one.

Whoa, looks nice! Looks better than my free model. The individual fins look awesome. I guess you get what you pay for!

Made more progress tonight:

So I went to my local crafts store after work and picked up some cool rain drop stickers. I placed them for the canopy and side windows:

Next I built the same stand I used for my Millenium Falcon build. Not perfect, but it will do the trick:

DONE!! (My 6th model)

All in all, not bad. Kind of don't like all the pixelation I got from blowing it up in size. But I guess it gives it texture.

G1, I would love to see how that other kit looks!

G-FORCE GO!
I remember this too, I remember that the villians lips were quite pink and luscious, a lot of action in the cartoon also. didn't the ship turn into a fiery phoenix?

A -in my opinion- significantly better detailed version of the Gatchaman/G-Force (God)Phoenix is found here (http://www.time-ring.com/gp.html) at the Japanese Studio Time Ring.
I have built this one a year or so ago just for giggles and nostalgia. The BOTP-series also went out here in the Netherlands in 1977/78 and I loved it. A couple of years ago I learnt of the original unedited Japanese version from 1972. the different end much more interesting storyline triggered a lot of images in the back of my mind and I really wanted to build the (God)Phoenix. Here's a few pics of my build.

I have that version also Kosmonaut .. Have not built it yet but i think the detail is much better on it than the others ..
