View Full Version : You Pick!! Koolwheelz 2018 Party continues!

Its time for YOU to pick a Koolwheelz model!

As a result of the recent 20 Questions challenges, five of you won the right to suggest a near-future Koolwheelz model.

This may be the only time I will let someone else decide what model I will produce.
Sure, I sometimes listen to suggestions that spark interest, but generally I only create what I want.

But now, I have five ideas that I cannot argue.
Well...four and half actually, because I had some input with one of them.
To be honest...I might not have picked these myself, but I actually like all the suggestions.
No A-Team in the bunch!

I'm not going to reveal who suggested each subject...I think it might influence your vote.
I'd appreciate (those who made the suggestions) keep your subjects a secret for now?

Anyone can vote, from the list of five suggestions, as to which subject you would like to see created.
Just pick the one you want.

As you can see in the Poll above, the five suggestions are (in no particular order):
a. 1971 Datsun 240Z in copper color (LeMans Sunset) Datsun 240Z (https://i.pinimg.com/originals/63/94/31/6394317e115c063c4101e5648ae4ffb6.jpg)
b. Hot Wheels 1970 Ambulance 70 Ambulance (http://hotwheels.wikia.com/wiki/Ambulance_(1970))
c. Lamborghini Gallardo Gallardo image (https://www.cstatic-images.com/stock/900x600/238882.jpg)
d. Matchbox Superfast #9 Ford RS.2000 (Escort) Rally Car Matchbox Escort (https://www.toymart.com/photos/27577207_23309172_74797833.jpg)
e. 1983 Dodge Ramcharger as used by Lone Wolf McQuade (Chuck Norris) Ramcharger (http://imcdb.org/i154208.jpg)

I want to take a bit of break from Koolwheelz, so...
I'm going to let the voting run for two weeks or so...I might end it sooner, we'll see how it goes.

Any questions or discussion...feel free.

The 240z (especially in copper) is a "classic". Great selection in this poll, Dave. Better than the poll I had to go vote in, in June.

Matchbox, for sure. Those old British cars looked so cool scattered amongst an ammo can full of old Hot Wheels! In Elementary school we were trading left & right, & Matchbox cars were primo trade barter.

That ammo can went everywhere with me, until I discovered Sting-Rays, sissy bars & pushbutton turn signals!

Grew up in Texas. How can I not vote for the Texas Ranger Ram though most rangers (Real ones) that I met drove Crown Vics. As second choice I like the Z.

can we not do one thing at a time?
The five of you can relate (if you wish to) why you suggested those models
or not at all...its up to each of you.

But we can do that after we have voted...okay?!

Right now, just vote for the subject you wish to see made into a Koolwheelz model.
Or, vote the subject you wish to torture me with the most!

Don't vote based on anything else*!

CoMe on RS2000 !!! Only want this due to being one of the cars from 'The Professionals '.

Thats a good enough reason for me!

I'm guessing you are talking about the British TV crime series?

...which I never saw or know anything about.

And I'm guessing that Ford Escorts were seen in the show
since they were a common car of that period (mid 1970s to 1980s)

but not necessarily the RS2000 Rally car?

For only €67.500 https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C1007559 (about $USD77,000)

Count me in as someone who was ignorant as well of "The Professionals" until now...

From some rudimentary searches, it looks like one spotting feature of the rally cars vs standard production variants was four headlights vs two, with the rally version having four (two pair) headlights.

HOWEVER-

Various searches of "The Professionals" have referred to the Escort mkII, the RS2000, and the Capri.

Gotta love the interwebs for clear, concise, accurate information! ;)

I'm still glad for your Black Beauty! Great car from your site.

Still working on the STV shuttle! Got the pieces cut, so planing the extra mods. Trying to round the nacelles first and fit some internal structure to support the sides...

I have a friend interested in the early concept craft, like the NASA concept craft that were never to be. Some of the early craft were featured i 50s-60s plastickits.

He mentioned the Haiyatta's science patrol jet from Ultraman tv series. I have never seen the show so I don't know if its any good. He sent an image [below]. I thought I'd share since you've featured other scify show craft I didn't know about until you made the kit. Sometimes your kits lead me to search new shows (or re-watch old Prisoner eps, thanks to a Lotus).

Is this something you'd like?

Want me to ask him for more images, if you like it?

Don't know, just trying to pass along the idea...

Protests? I was too stunned to react at first. Then I was going to cry, right here in the forum. Then I was contemplating threats, involving the Space Shuttle and, possibly, cats. Mostly, I was really hoping you didn't mean it, so I wouldn't have to say something I'd regret later.

I am rather amazed that you have the prototype already. I expected there would be a wait while you did the designing. It looks beautiful. *Sniffle* I'm touched. I'm looking forward to building it.

And for those who wonder, we've long owned our '71 240Z (Zed in Canada, as Dave properly points out, but I am accustomed to calling it a Zee). We bought it in '77, if memory serves. It was silver when we got it, which eventually faded to primer gray. We had it painted gloss black with gold pinstripes, which was gorgeous but impossible to keep clean. When the time came to have it painted again, we chose the "LeMans Sunset" copper color that was the color for the show 350Z and one of the intro colors for the first production 350Z's. Our little nod to the old and the new in Datsun / Nissan Z-Car history. We don't drive it much, but it's roadworthy and everything works on it - even the clock!

Thanks to everyone who voted for it (seems like everyone has a Z-Car story), and thanks to evryone who voted in the poll - it was fun watching the tallies day by day.

LOL I kinda wish I hadn't revealed it now...just to see what insults you could throw at me!

Prototype? Thats the model.
I created it right after you suggested it, because I liked the idea so much.
...it didn't matter if it won the Poll or not.
I finished building it last week.

To be honest, I didn't expect it to be the hot favorite.
Usually anything I like, nobody else does.

And vice versa...what I hate, everyone else wants.
That Lone McQuade RamWolfer thing is testament to that!

Funny thing about the 240z, 260z and 280z...
I wasn't a big fan at the time.

Looking back...about two months ago, or more...
when I first offered up the the prize of requesting a Koolwheelz model...

Neilio won the right to ask me for a Koolwheelz and he offered up 2 or 3 suggestions.
His first request sparked my attention.
Something that might have been requested before...
I decided it was a viable subject and I agreed.

Neilio has had his copy of the model....and has built it...as have I.
So, now its time to publish it I think.

Yes, mine is well underway. I've scored, cut out everything but the tires, and done some initial shaping. Tonight's tasks are cutting out the remaining parts, edge coloring, and starting the assembly. There are many small glue tabs and I want to take my time, both to get better results and to savor the process. My idea of a perfect evening is working on a model with a baseball game on the radio. Happy Friday!

So, you downloaded the models okay?
My commentaries didn't get in your way?
You were still able to download the free model without worrying about my personal anecdotes?
LOL

...
I really like the Porsche model...I think that one turned out quite well considering it was such an awkward shape to deal with.

The Superbird didn't turn out half bad either, considering it wasn't my original idea.

The Datsun is so-so in my opinion.
Mainly because of that upper seam that goes around the vehicle.
To keep the part count down and simplify the design, thats how it had to be done.
It was either that, or eliminate the rounded nose and make the car more boxy.
I thought the 240Z shape needed to be retained.

...
Oh no! I'm creating another one of my long winded posts...oh no...what will people do?!.

[errr...ignore them, if they don't want to read them?]
...
Thanks Tom...thanks Gary...have fun

I just finished my build of the Koolwheelz Datsun 240Z -- obviously, my all-time favorite! :):):) I was extra careful building this one and I'm very happy with how it came out. Edge coloring is essential with this design, and I was lucky and hit a fairly close match. I chose to omit the side mirrors, as they always seem to meet with unfortunate accidents on my models. Many thanks to Dave for the contest and the design, and to everyone who voted in the poll (for the Datsun and for the other choices).

The third picture is intended to show the numerous glue tabs on the inside. Apologies for the blurriness. The fourth and fifth are taken in front of an Epinal diorama I finished recently, just to give it some background (though the two models are not in very compatible scales).
