Dear all,
this is my first post here (if you do not count the posts in welcome thread). I would like to introduce my current project - the hand of Terminator T800 (Endoskeleton hand). As you know, you can buy resin model kit (Frontier models), but this kit has two problems. First one - it is little bit expensive. The second one - it is not a PAPER!!! :)

I started this project a two / three months ago. Guy, called himself Tata, persuaded me to make this model. He is admin of sci-fi section of czech paper models forum. After these three months I have realized he is also a great modeler and person too. He is the only person who works on BETA model.

I have downloaded a lot of free 3D models of Terminators. But Endoskeleton hands in all of these models were not like in the film (T2:JD). So I have deleted all of the 3D models and started looking for something else. I found a lot of pictures of this resin kit (and builds of it) so I decided to make a model according to pictures.

3D model was created, designed and unfolded in Rhinoceros. I am still working on the small pistons, which are connected to the fingers (pistons on the pictures below are still WIP- I have to move and rotate them and somehow connect them to the "base") but the rest of the model is nearly completed.

http://www.postimage.org/Pq1kHywA.jpg (http://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=Pq1kHywA)http://www.postimage.org/Pq1kHtxi.jpg (http://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=Pq1kHtxi)http://www.postimage.org/aVQXpxr.jpg (http://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=aVQXpxr)http://www.postimage.org/aVQX84r.jpg (http://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=aVQX84r)http://www.postimage.org/Pq1kHoy0.jpg (http://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=Pq1kHoy0)

Photos of the build of this paper model will be added soon.

If possible, I will upload model somewhere on the internet. But, please, be patient. There is lot of work which has to be done (I am little bit scared about instructions), and currently there are also other "active" project I am working on.

If you have any ideas, questions or just want to say "hello", please feel free to leave a comment...

Really looking forward to seeing how this shapes up.
I too have downloaded any of the 3D terminator models I've found and checked them out, but all require extensive work for converting to paper kits.

It's a dream of mine to one day do a complete 1:1 terminator endoskeleton. I don't really expect I'll live long enough to actually do it, because I have so many other projects on my to do list, buy hey, ya gotta have dreams.

need. need badly.

A tip with chrome paint: make a base coat as shiny as possible. polished gloss black is ideal, and will make your final chrome layer look awesome.

MM is absolutely correct. But, you are wasting your time with Chrome Paint. Purchase Alclad brand paints. They have an airbrush ready line of paints, Chrome being one of them, that are superior to anything available anywhere. I used to demo and sell the stuff when I was active on the model contest circuit.

Oh, agreed, alclad is certainly the best choice. I've noticed recently that they (or at least some of them) are available in a spray can. I know the chrome is, at least for lexan, and I'm assuming that there would be little difference in the finished effect for this verses the standard formulation.

True, but Alclad isn't one of them. (http://www.alclad2.com/alclad-home.html) It is available in Germany at least AFAIK, so our overseas friends can obtain it at reasonable prices. At least, I'm pretty sure it is; there are certainly a lot of European modelers on SSM who use the stuff.

2Kamser: There will be small pistons for each finger (two pistons for one finger), together 9 pistons (thumb has only one piston). These pistons are sort of "movement control" for fingers.

I am really amazed by these pictures. Hope, I will see this model in near future. Congrats to Tata, beautiful work!!

Just downloaded it, but allow me a couple of questions:

- did you glue most the parts without tabs? Looking over the parts on the sheets it seems so.

- which weight of paper did you use? Would 170 g/square meter for the tubes plus 250 g/square meter for the stabilizing parts be a good idea?

Many thanks for sharing this Ing Spendlik and Tata. I think the Terminator arm has been number one on a lot of people's wish lists for a long time. The parts and instructions look excellent!

I think building this will be a little like a tank model, but instead of endless wheels to build, it will be knuckle joints!:D

Good luck with the papercraft cup and thanks again

Thanks for sharing this beautiful model, but after D/L'ing it and looking it over I have a question. I noticed some of the part numbers are followed by 2 stars but I couldn't find what they mean. Really looking forward to building this even though the push rods for the fingers look like the biggest challenge.

Thank you all for your kind words.
Some explanation points from our side:

- Tata printed this model on 160g paper and the main bases on 250g (part 1 and 3). So in this case I think 170g is great and just to strenghen the base, please glue this two parts to another 170g paper (I think this two parts are already marked with *)
- as I mentioned one star * means "Glue to make it stronger" :) . Two stars ** mean you have to glue it on 1mm card stock. Small "x" near the number means that this part is not a paper part, but you have to use small wooden rod or some kind of steel rod (material is up to you). Blue arrows and triangles are securing the right orientation of parts. Sorry for this, I have forgotten to add this points to instructions.
- this model was created with some expectations that the builder has experiences with paper modeling and is capable of creating some modification to the model. Maybe you won´t use some parts, maybe you will add some parts (for example tabs - Tata did not use tabs, but there is no problem for anyone to add them).

I have to say, it is not an easy model, it is very difficult, Tata will definitely say the same :D
But in case of any questions, just post a reply and I will try to explain everything.

Finally thanks again for your kind words. Hope you like our model and if you decide to make one I wish you happy cutting, glueing and I believe that with little bit experience and patient you will create a model you will be proud of.

The arm looks fantastic. Thanks for a great model. Where did you find the Terminator Skull? I don't remember seeing a model of it.

Thanks for sharing this beautiful model, but after D/L'ing it and looking it over I have a question. I noticed some of the part numbers are followed by 2 stars but I couldn't find what they mean. Really looking forward to building this even though the push rods for the fingers look like the biggest challenge.

How do you keep the tubes so smooth?

Ing. Spendlik

According to what Tata said, he used classic way of creating tubes. To make it smooth he used his "saliva" (or "split" - not sure which word I should use). He licked his finger and applied "it" on paper part. It should be slightly wet and easy to form. Then he form paper part into a tube (form it around some plastic, wooden tube with similar size - you can use everything what you can find at home and has similar radius). Because the tubes here are bigger you have to applied these steps few times to form the whole tube.

Salivas (splits) are great for forming. After applying them on paper part, the part become easier to form and becuase it is not a water but saliva (it contains some "additions" :)) it also holds the shape. But aware of using too much of it, it is still some "kind" of water an it could destroy whole part.

Now that is a lot of split juice

Well I finally made the first cut and have one assembly done, now I can breath again. If the rest goes together as good then this is going to be just as awesome as it looks, I've seen commercial stuff that wasn't drawn this accurately 4 THUMBS UP.

I believe your referring to parts 94 & 95, the ** symbol means it gets glued to a 1 mm thick piece of card stock so thats why the part in the photo looks thicker.

Awesome job, so far! I just ran across this model on another hard drive not two days ago. This is definately something I want to do one day.

Ok, I have made the final touches to 3D model (small pistons), now I have to unfold the last parts and BETA phase of this model from my side will be finished.

in advance of an attempt to build this I have experimented with gluing aluminum foil to cardstock. it seems to work pretty well if you roll it on carefully, and it's fairly sturdy. has anyone used this technique before and can tell me problems I might run into and how to avoid them?

Gil has more than mastered the bonding of foils to paper in many of his numerous builds and research projects. http://www.papermodelers.com/forum/tutorials/4633-how-make-aluminum-clad-card-stock.html

I would suggest doing a search for Gil in the member list and checking out all of his ongoing contributions and there are other foil experiments. They are incredible!

Hope this helps
Ron

PS. Thank you for the EndoSkeleton Hand Ing! This looks like a project that I will be building for my guy at Silver Snail Comics. He blesses me with tons of pulp board and this would go great in his store!

off the top of my head that seems like the problems would be they're too thick, lining mirror stickers up would be a pain, and they would be kinda fussy to work with. it would be easier to just laminate the pages with tinfoil.

Has anyone ever tried the chrome spray paint? I was in the hardware store yesterday for that very purpose :) Plastikote makes a spray for chrome bumpers. I've seen video of a guy chroming his motorcycle wheels that were originally black. He started with a gloss black base coat and after a good while drying sprayed the chrome and then a clear afterwards. The Plastikote stuff, from what I can see will probably work well with a quick gloss black spray to seal the card and then the chrome. I'm going to give it a go! Even if it looks like a nice aluminum it might be worth the effort

Hello,
when I was designing this model I found one site with plastic model of endoskeleton hand. Guy there sprayed firstly whole model with gloss black and then he sprayed it with chrome paint. According to some modellers, this should be a common technique for creating nice and glossy chrome paint.
Here is the link - The Diary of a T-800 Arm (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/paul.a.kitching/arm2.htm)

Hope it helps :)

PS: Soon, I will repost a model for download - stay tuned :)

Hello,
so as I promised, I have uploaded paper model of Endoskeleton hand on my site - you can downloaded it here:
Endoskeleton hand paper model (http://www.spendlik.sk/papierove-modely/ruka-terminatora/?utm_source=forum&utm_medium=link-to-model&utm_content=papermodelers-com&utm_campaign=endoskeleton-hand)

Site is still only in Slovak language but I hope that English will be added in the near future. For downloading a model just click on the orange button with handwritten text "Stiahnut model" (translated - download model).

The chrome bumper paint gives a pretty good effect over a gloss black or dark blue for a little cooler look. ALCLAD (available at most hobby shops, especially military orientated ones) seems to be about the best. Here's a link to some experiments with different paints duplicating metal surfaces: NATURAL METAL FINISH PAINT SYSTEMS TEST (http://modelingmadness.com/others/features/mp/mcleodpaints.htm)

Hello I'm new here and I'm from Germany. I love the endo hand. Can anyone explain the instructions. Red keuz? Black cross? and circle with a line and glue together as there are no adhesive surfaces tips? sorry for the English is googel translator

Ing. Spendlik

Hi lessivr6,

Red cross - you need to cut out the area where the red cross is. Basically, if there is a red cross in a part, this part will have a hole in it :)

Black cross - this is just a guide. It marks the center of a circular part.

Glue tabs - if you need a glue tabs, you will need to create them by yourself. Most of my models do not have glueing tabs, cause you don't need them. Endoskeleton hand is little bit different, there are many "tube shape" parts. Form the part into desired tube shape and then add a strip of paper, which will work as a glue tab.

Hope this helps.
