Well, I've been working on this thing on and off for about a year now and I'm finally done! I repainted, resized, and fixed up the H-IIA from Paper Model World (http://homepage2.nifty.com/papermodel/indexe.html) and now it's ready for download.

You can see a few more pictures on my website (http://www.ericksmodels.com), but here's a picture of it all built up. I hope you like it!

It looks very good. Did you talk to Takahiro Kojima about distributing a re-colour of his design?

Great clean up and detail additions! This is now a very sharp layout, and your built is well executed.

Honestly, I've tried contacting him several times, but haven't received a reply. If everyone here thinks it's bad form, I can take it down. The model is almost completely re-done, not just recolored. I'll remove the link from my post if that's what the mods wants.

Great, I'm looking forward to building this version to go with my model from the original files.

If you've substantially redesigned the structure/parts/assembly and redone the graphics (and the original was distributed free) my vote would be to give credit to the originator on your plans - "based on a design by xxxx at web url" - and consider the issue closed.

Now, ready for the real answer from the pros and legal eagles. Fire away!

That's exactly what I did. There are some fairly significant changes structurally and the graphics are about 85% new. I put on that it was a based on work by xxxx found at xxxx. If anyone else has any suggestions, please let me know.

Other than that, I'm glad everyone likes what changes I've done. The model really stands out from the crowd with it's colors and design.

That sounds reasonable to me, especially considering you have tried to contact him and given the substantial if improvements you have made.

Your version is much more realistic, I like it a lot.

Good news, I got a hold of him. Takahiro Kojima gave me permission to distribute the reworked model on my site. He also passed word that he has a new site now, and you can get there at http://s-papa.cocolog-nifty. (http://s-papa.cocolog-nifty.com/pmodels/)com/pmodels/ (http://s-papa.cocolog-nifty.com/pmodels/). He's got a nice Thunderbird-1 there for those who are interested.

I'm planning on releasing a couple launch specific models in the future as well. I really like the H-IIA. It's a nice change from all the white rockets you see everywhere else.
