Having finished my Onondaga and just waiting for the beta build to finish, I went ahead and started the next project on my list, the USS Canonicus. Canonicus was the lead ship of the Canonicus class monitor. Their unique hull shape was the result of attempts to increase the top speed, but they still fell short of their designed top speed of 13 knots. They mounted twin 15-in Dahlgren smoothbore canons. The Tecumseh was mined and sunk at the battle of Mobile Bay, and was the only member of the class to be lost.

I managed to acquire copies of some plans from a friend (thanks again Devin!) so I am hoping I won't need to do as much research as I have in the past. Scale as always will be 1/250 and in waterline format.

Thanks guys! :)

Tom, yes, I use sketchup for all my design work. At this very moment I am working on a step-by-step tutorial for how to design a model using sketchup. I should have it finished in a couple of weeks. In the meantime, if you have any specific questions, feel free to ask away. :)

Continuing on. Added the vents, hatchways and beginning the foredeck detail.

Most of the parts unfolded. Just missing optional turret and funnel parts for the other ships in the class. Release on track for last week of August...:)

Looks like it unfolded very nicely. What do you use to unfold your models?

I use a free plug-in for Google Sketchup. It allows very precise, face by face unfolding. Works like a charm and it's free! :)

This kith has just been sent to Chris for release. I have not heard from by beta builder recently, if anyone is in contact with Kaz, tell him I said "hi!" and that I almost have another kit for him. Or, Kaz, if you see this, send me an e-mail! :)

A very nice model. I think you guys do a great service in chronicling the great ships. So many people just hear of the Monitor and the Merrimack without realizing what developed changed the navies of the world.

Look forward to this one. At the rate I'm going with CT's kits and yours and others I have the makings of quite a naval battle.

Thanks for your work!!
