1. phase 1
Constitution class cruiser - USS Excalibur
Ptolemy class freighter - USS Deneb
Saladin class destroyer - USS Xerxes

2. phase 2
Federation class dreadnought - USS Entente
Shuttlecraft Galileo
DY-100 Botany bay

first prototypes - beta build is possible, but instructions is not yet complete.

Did you know there is already a Botany Bay available? I can't recall where I spotted it, but it was a page with a number of other ST models as well. I can search if you like?

If you'd rather build it yourself, then it's not a big deal (we can never have too many ST models!!)

Cool project!!! I like it! What scale will it be?

BTW: the Botany Bay (from Ulrich Prahn) is here available:

After all this you should do yourself a paper statue :D

For a Trekker fan this models are like a xmas gift so please don't "stop" at phase 2.... go on ghgh

PS: are you thinking of creating also an enterprise version from the excalibur model?... It would be most appreciated and the perfect start for the fleet ^^

FANTASTIC!! I have been meaning to do a TMP refit Ptolemy Class and Federation Class Dreadnought as follow ups to my refit Saladin, its just gotten kind of put on the back burner atm. Very nice work Rawen. Keep it up!

Ok I converted them to PDF for scaling and printed them. original scale came out at roughly 1:1318. scaled mine to 1:1700, will be getting on that soon but Rawen has inspired me to work on my refits (as my saladin these will be derivatives of Cmags' mod of the SF Papercraft Ent-A) to compliment his fine work.

OUTSTANDING WORK!

I can't wait till till you complete your work! I have always dreamed of a Original Series based ships. Changing the names though would be nice for those of us who have a favorite ship in the fleet........"U.S.S. Kongo" (Constitution Class) appealed to me at a young AMT / Franz Joseph designs stage....."U.S.S. Revere (Franz Joseph Starfleet Tech Manual - Hermes Scout Class)....."U.S.S. Martel" (Franz Joseph SFTM - Saladin Destroyer Class..."U.S.S. Konkordium" (SFTM - Dreadnought Class) Some of the names my dwindling memory held in high regard......

Rawen

Today i test the nacelle and Constitution secondary hull - some bugs were found:

1:Too much complicated system of naccele pylons
2:back part of the naccele is too big.

Other parts looks OK.

Rawen im building your Ptolemy Class right now. Primary hull came out great (well i guess this class has no secondary hull lol). The top section of the bridge might be a bit too tall. But the only thing i really noticed that needs some attention is you need to move the location of the pylon holes on the nacelles as they are still in the same location (bottom of the nacelle) as from the constitution class. Other than that its looking great! I just have the nacelles to go and I will post pics.

Thanks sidewinder! I look on it.

Here are some news:

container for USS DENEB and some basic parts for Dreadnought - still only for beta- build.

http://i686.photobucket.com/albums/vv221/Rawen616/th_TOSstarfleet.jpg (http://s686.photobucket.com/albums/vv221/Rawen616/?action=view&current=TOSstarfleet.jpg)

Other ships need only little updates - i add few details and make more contrast colors.

Millenniumfalsehood
08-21-2009, 02:34 PM
I like how you used the alignment markings from the Constitution-class shuttlebay on the container's docking interface. It only makes sense to have a way to align the container with the mating surface on the neck of the Ptolemy class. :)

Rawen

Ok, i working last 2 days on updated versions.
So, there is all ships what i have.
The nacelles for dreadnought comes soon with little model of Galileo shuttle.
Deneb and Xerxes has been tested by Sidewinder, and all parts looks Ok.
Simply instructions is ready too.

Beta builders is welcome:-)

Beta building the Entente. Ok Rawen here are a few fixes u need to do. The sides of the upper and lower bridge decks (or whatever they are lol) need to be about half as tall, and the curved surface on the bottom of the shuttlebay door needs to be a little bit flatter. The biggie though is when assembled as drawn the back end of the secondary hull is way too large, had to taper the staight edges quite a bit more to get the rear end down to the right size for the end cap. Just waiting on the nacelles now.Great work Rawen!

Sidewinder81777

Beautiful Ships Rawen; something that's been needed for a long time. Thanks

Sidewinder, if I remember correctly the differences between the Federation Class - TAS and the TOS and Franz Joseph ships was to ease drawing for the original animators. (I think, it's been a while). The bridge was shaped differently!

But what do I know, I'm just an old Fart! On top of evrything else, that is! lol!

Hello crew:-)

Today i make last fixes on all parts ( only the Galileo need beta build) . And i look there is some first "custom versions" builded from my parts. That's great! Its give an idea - for all who wants to build his own TOS starship i post all the parts in black/white versions without any markings, registry numbers and other details and you can build your own ships completely as you wish - from paint, number of nacelles, type of hull, to name or registry number...

Wow. The Raven's Blood and the BOP paint schemes are really neat graphically. I have looked over a lot of the different ships that all you talented designers share with us and as I don't know much beyond the common Trek information about the ships, I would like to find information beyond common knowledge? I would be interested to see more of this alternate world.

Prototype is ready, if somebody want, can try build it. Its very simple like the other from my TOS series.

Its good to see new kitbashes. Will you build it? I think there is no TOS Miranda class starship. You can be first. I have momentaly too much work to build or draw models.

Rawen your models are always excellent!
Up to now I builded all your models exept the excalibur, so, after it, I will proceed with the BOP... however... I've a little question:
Is there a way you can "smooth" the poligonal front edges of the saucer-like section, to make it circular? I think that they are the only "imperfection" of the model.
Let we know! :D

PS: forgive the question if it's not possible, I'm totally graphic-noob ^^'

Ok...

My camera broke just one week ago, so I had to take them by cellphone ( they aren't very good). Anyway here are them:

USS Xerxes
First one I built. I removed all tabs ( as I always do ) and: laminated flat parts with comics books boards; used inner tabs for round parts.

USS Deneb
same as Xerxes. Only a little bit difficult to round the container, cause I use 167g/mm^3 epson matte paper

And last but not least
The GALILEO Seven
It's a little jewel!. I had to print other schemes on standard paper to round the nacelles and to give color to the "inside of the two sides", but iw wasn't too difficult. Also.... I've built a little diorama for it... but i have to paint it so I'll add pictures on the next days.

Millenniumfalsehood: My aim was exactely that... to reproduce a 60's stage-like model. Not a "real" diorama but a diorama that a production budget of an episode could afford ( wood "rocks", absurd colors, etc.. ). So a cloud monster could have been a very cheap special effect :-D

You can find a lot of 2D cutaways and blueprints for Star Trek TOS, TNG and TMP Starships, along with deck maps, on "Ex Astris Scientia", "Neutral Zone StarShips DataBase", "Star Trek Minutiae",etc...:)

I would also like to have 3D cutaways of some of these ships, like for planes in travel agencies and plane compagnies, but I can barely imagine the amount of time, work and patience both for the designer  and the builder :eek:

Ron Caudillo has designed a paper model of the bridge of Enterprise 1701 TOS, and Andrew "Skip" Skupinski has designed paper models of the bridges of Enterprise 1701-D and 1701-E, unfortunately not (I think) Ent. Refit or 1701-A.

The first, Enterprise NCC-1701 TOS, can be freely downloaded at LHVCC:

http://jleslie48.com/stbb/rel.html

For the other, you have to pay with PayPal, by e-mailing Skip, 8$ each, which is worth the price...

Maybe you can downsize it?

Hope it helps...

Hmm; Maybe, But it would be about the size of a U.S. nickel- 1/2 inch or so in Dia. I'm thinking mainly have the floor, side-walls, and that is a bout it. And if Rawen designs it it will have the same flavor as the other interior parts. Now it I had an entire room to my self for my hobbies... Yes we all do dream of that, lol. I would enlarge this model to be about 1/100 or so and then really detail it out.

I know I'm resurrecting a thread we've all moved on from, here, but I had a realated question. Has anyone else who has build any of these had fit problems with the saucer edge band being too short? Putting one together today, I came up about an 1/8 of an inch short for the circumference of the upper side.

(This is a mirror posting to the Modular Starfleet tread (http://www.papermodelers.com/forum/alternate-dimensions/12965-since-we-havent-had-any-new-trek-models-here-lately.html) )

Hello there!

I just uploaded two Add-Ons for Modular Starfleet.
They are in the moderation queue right now.

This summer i had finally found the time to build Rawens excellent interpretations of the famous Franz Joseph designs.
Shortly afterwards i stumbled across detailed Saladin/Hermes blueprints depicting two tiny hangar bays located in the undersider of the saucer
(and yes, making an allready cramped little ship ever more so ;-) ).
So i decided to give it a try and see if i could fit these hangar bays into rawens design.

Yes, miraculously there was just enough space to put the hangars right there where the blueprints said they should go.
Yes, attempting to build the bays behind those swing-out doors (remember, pretty cramped ship?) is not for the faint-of-heart or clumsy-of-fingers.
And finally Yes, i didn´t exactly sprain an ankle in making too much haste.

And then pdmccool wooshed past me and simply blew me off the Track, his massive Modular Star Fleet rendering most of my ideas (and work...) totally obsolete.

Exept for those tiny hangar bays.

So i brushed aside the debris, salvaged what i could, and this made my Modular Starfleet Addon 1.

Then there is Modular Starfleet Addon 2.

As much as i did like Rawens TOS Ships, i felt that the Container for the Deneb-class-tug has come out a little bit longer
than Franz Joseph had drawn it in his Starfleet technical manual.

Additionally, Franz Joseph had developed several types of containers.
Most of them look alike exept the first digit of their registry,
but the MK IV Starliner really sticks out as something completely different.

I took some artistic liberties concerning the container registries, as i felt that NCC- prefixes should be reserved for fully-fledged starships,
renamed them NT- (ought to be obvious where that letter comes from) and added a fifth digit to the number.

The Federation, and Space itself is much bigger than we can imagine...

For those who disagree with my point of view there are unnumbered versions,
and sample numbers and the original NCC- prefix are provided on all sheets for cut-and paste renumbering.

I added the Deneb Tow Pad in pdmccools style, as he seemlingly had ommited it
(or i have been just too inept to find it...).

I have provided the parts in both Rawens and pdmccools styles, as i perceive them simply different from each other and didn´t want to leave someone behind.

Talk about standing on the shoulders of giants....

Thanks to Rawen and pdmccool for their excellen paperwork,
to Franz Joseph for massively dreaming on where others did no more,
and Gene Roddenbery for setting it all off in the first place.

Greetings From Vienna
Robert

Putting one together today, I came up about an 1/8 of an inch short for the circumference of the upper side.

I noticed that, but since I was using the design with the engineering connected to the back of the saucer, I just put the gap back there, and covered it. worked great.

only real problem I saw other than that was the lack of internal support for the saucer. mine caved a little, and im sure that an experienced moddler would do it without thinking, but us newbies gotta have our hands held from time to time. yanno? ;)

well, lesson learned :):)

You shouldn't need anything more than a simple ring type support in the saucer. don't feel bad though, i didn't even think about it until I got the saucer put together..hehe
