This week I decided to deviate from the full model build and go with an 'assembly' part of a full model. This
Wright engine by Bomarc for his Orlik PBJ-1H (http://www.papermodelers.com/forum/aviation/4604-orlik-pbj-1h-mitchell.html) is not only a great representation of the engine in paper (mostly) - but the techniques he used are very clearly described and laid out in step-by-step pictures.
*I will note that an honorable mention goes to Ericgoedkoop (http://www.papermodelers.com/forum/aviation/3665-last-months-work-why-takes-me-forever-build-model.html) for his assemblies as well ;)

Most definitely! Had I not seen him build it, I would have trouble believing it is paper. Super choice for POTW!

Jeez, I go away for a day, and this place goes to heck in a handbasket....

Thanks Dan, I'm honored.

Mike,

Taking vacation? From modeling radial engines?

The ignition distribution rings and wiring ice the cake.

I've been working on a design off and on (mostly off right now) for the R-1820 in an effort to improve the looks of a B-17G. Interestingly enough, Some of the same techniques as the ones you've shown in your thread were used on the one shown below (the old "like minds roll in the same gutter"). The rocker covers were assembled using a jig similar to the one you used (twiddly that stuff). Building engines is not as bad as tank treads but it's close.

I have Orlik's shiny version so I'm watching your build. It's much too pretty to cut up. Figure I'll scan and clad or something to that effect . . . ,

This is the a VERY WELL DESERVED POTW I've watched this baby grow from day 1 and still hard to believe that it's paper - BOMARC is a true GENIUS ! Congratulations friend ;)

What, no oil leaks? Oops! I forgot; it's a brand new engine.

I think that engine constitutes a complete model and and of itself, Dan.

In any event, this is a very good choice for POTW.

Major Davenport, did you have any involvement with IPMS-USA in the mid to late nineties? If you did, I think we may have met. I seem to remember a 'Chuck' Davenport who was part of the E-board back then. That Davenport had arranged for a group buy of a scale calculator which I took advantage of, and at the '97 Nats in Columbus, I thanked him (you?) for the deal.

Still have that calc (somewhere)....

Guilty as charged! You found me, and I thought I had done such a good job of hiding. I still have my Calc, too, and use it on occasion.

So, you found paper, too. I got tired of the endless sanding and filling, and painting. I also like the wider range of subjects available to paper modelers. The prices are pretty good, too.

Are you going to Columbus for the Nats this year? I am in school so I will stay at home.
